I posted this as response to another thread regarding tips for playing on legendary, and it occured to me that this may stand as it's own thread. I have been seeing talk of shortcuts and ways around things over the years and I thought it might be time for a subtle reminder to us all regarding our butt kicking responsibilities as the MC! The post is as follows:

It is a tad disappointing that we have found ourselves put in the position that we feel skipping parts of maps is the best strategy. What that tells me is that either Bungie got careless when assessing the playability of certain aspects of the campaign on legendary (relative to the patience and skills of the players) or that as players we have lost some appreciation for who and what the MC is supposed to be. I tend to lean on the second part of that.

I admit that there are time when it I am dying way to often and making no progress with certain skulls and situations combined and choose to just bypass an area. The most common situation is related to vehicle combat areas. On legendary, with Sputnik and thunderstorm on, any ghost driven by an enemy becomes darn near lethal, far more of an increase in lethality than how dangerous the MC gets when skulls and difficulty are increased. I point out for example the second half of outskirts, after the dark tunnel. All of the ghost combat becomes tedious because your ghost takes such a beating compared to how long an enemy ghost lasts. Lately I have just taken to getting into one and speeding for as many checkpoints as possible. The funny thing is that before I found out about the skulls one of my favorite parts of the game was sniping the fuel tanks of all of the ghosts in the middle part of that portion of the level. It took alot of patience and a decent amount of skill, and if you did it right there was enough beam rifle left to take out the bulk of the Elites guarding the second tunnel entry (and even a rocket launcher to boot!). With skulls like sputnik, blind and thunderstorm on (which is a very fun way to play the beginning of outskirts and all of delta halo and regret), these kinds of battles become almost impossible to fight and kill everything without dying ten times.

As the MC, we are unfrozen when things are bleak, and we are needed to KICK SOME SERIOUS BUTT! We all need to start remembering that and just because something is difficult man up and take it out! When I play CE, EVERYTHING DIES, when I play 2 most things die, and I need to change that back to KILL EVERYTHING IN SIGHT! In my opinion, so do you!

RIP Halo 2

I'm sorry, your grammar is just awful. Please type this using proper grammar and I might read the entire thing.

I do agree with the "kill everything in site" and the fact that ghosts that you pilot for some reason take such a beating, compared to those piloted by elites and such. But the problem is not with vehicle combat, its those damn snipers in the game, that make certain areas in the game near impossible.

(sniper alley in outskirts, sniper gulch in delta halo, and of coure, those open areas in the level, gravemind) that can, if your not skillful, take hours of no progress, until you just simply skip by avoiding the whole battle sequence, and such.

But yeah, if you manage to beat and kill everything at legendary, then you may find it to be fun when you do it again with skulls.

I can't imagine the vehicle section to be that hard. Just boost away and let your shields recharge. All that matters is keeping your shields up and because your shields recharge much faster than the Elites in the Ghosts you can utilize hit and run tactics until they're all toast.

*edit*I forgot the part where you mentioned you had Thunderstorm. Since that tremendously increased the shielding of the Elites I can see what you mean by being tedious.

ARBITER, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT BUTTER!!! WORT WORT WORT.

When you're making skull profiles, it doesn't make sense to play the campaign all the way through does it?

That's about the only time I skip parts.

Well, in Legendary you're going to die 4,000 times anyway the first time through, so there's no bad-a** involved. If I just want to have a good time and kill everything I play Heroic with no skulls.
