Then go to MLG. You start with a BR, everyone has a BR, and you have a fighting chance with a BR.
Seriously people, if they made us start with a BR, it would be MLG all over again -- there would be no need to pick any other weapon (besides a sniper or shotgun), BR is probably one of the strongest guns in the game (if you know how to use it that is), and Bungie wanted to introduce an AR for a reason. Plus, it gives the other team an advantage if the entire other team only has AR's; same goes for your team.
Just think of it as this way -- not ALL people are as good with the BR as some people. So they give them a chance with an AR that just so happens to take no skill in to shoot. If you wanted a BR, you can just pick it up. You guys maybe good with the BR, but can you say that to someone with no skill with a BR? It actually takes skill to use a BR, and some people just don't have it. Me personally I love the BR; ever since H2. I veto every game, except BRs, if I can't find a BR I kill with my AR (or other weapon), and if we do happen to play ARs I just pick up a BR - that plain and simple.
The concept of MLG's great however I find it unbearable online for several reasons:
1. The increased speed exacerbates the netcode flaws and means that ridiculous leading for lag is required to land your shots. Its also very hard to tell if your shots are registering when the bullets are not actually hitting the target on your screen but passing infront of them. On top of that there is a different host nearly every single game so you have to adjust to each new host every game meaning you can never really get used to where to aim.
2. The low population tends to result in bad hosts regularly (I often get games where most players are yellow bar for large parts of the game, this rarely happens in other playlists)
3. Most players who play MLG are competent with the BR which it isn't all that hard to be, this means that BR fights often come down to host/connection to host, being from the UK I always have a high ping to US hosts (the majority of hosts).
4. BR fights are usually almost always won by a slim margin so those 1-2 bullets (can be a lot more) that miss on the hosts screen or just don't exist make all the difference and as everything centres around BR fights losing one can have a huge influence on the outcome of the game especially if that BR fight was over power weapon control, the result of that one lost fight is a 2 kill advantage and a power weapon, thats huge.
5. When it comes to melees in MLG its 2 BR shots for a 1 hit kill. Often as you turn a corner and see your opponent you shoot straight away as does your opponent, often for me my opponents 2 shots register before mine and they beat me down even though it appears that both my shots hit and I melee'd.
6. Another common occurence playing off-host in MLG is that I will be up in a BR fight and then my opponent will suddenly lunge beatdown me from a huge distance then suddenly re-appear where they were before however I now have no shields and they finish me off. Huge lunge beatdowns with mauler are also a problem. Again the extra distance is caused by the increased speed which means that opponents appear further away than they are according to the host because the distance they can move in the ping time compared to regular speed is greater.
As to BR starts becoming MLG thats quite far from the truth, whenever I play team BRs people use most weapons on the map. I myself use sniper, carbine, rockets, laser, AR, smg, plasma rifle, mauler, shotgun, hammer, sword, brute shot, plasma pistol on a regular basis.
The BR doesnt take extreme amounts of skill to be reasonable with, its not a specialist weapon by any means it takes a moderate amount of skill to use.
