Here BigShow, I'll start you off. The first 10 pages has a break-down like this:
Likes or indifferent with current H3 BR: 70
Dislikes and wants changes to current H3 BR: 31
If you want the specific members I have marked down for each, I'll give you those. Do you want me to put it in a pie chart so it is "unbiased"?
Regardless, DanBauer's poll and this thread doesn't prove anything. It's not representative of the general populous, and pretty much anything short of a direct Bungie poll via a 3rd party census means dick. That was my point but it was nice to see that you could even find an argument with my argument that those arguments aren't persuasive.

I never said it proved anything, I said it was the best we have. There will never be a perfectly accurate guage of a population unless you poll every single member of that population. Thats why sample populations were created; you select members from the community and assume they represent the entire populace. Thats what a poll does.
Regardless, I wouldn't care if 99% of the Bungie.net population said they didn't want the spread changed. 99% of Bungie.net members have a very poor grasp of what actually makes a game good or enjoyable. They may think they enjoy the game for one reason but it is in fact something else entirely that makes the game enjoyable for them. If we made a game with every Bungie.net suggestion included, it would be the worst game ever.
Do you want to know why so many people have such a strong opinion of the BR? You might think that its because some people prefer to play the game one way and others prefer to play it another. Or you may think its because some people feel one weapon is cheap and the other is not. You may even be niave enough to think that most people hold their opinion of the BR through their own personal analysis.
The real reason is something much more primitive and ridiculous.
Its because Bungie chose to start players with an SMG in Halo 2 and MLG chose to start people with a BR. The ensuing arguments and hatred that spawned from that slight divergence created such a sharp divide in players that they carry this animosity still. Most players on Bungie.net have a knee-jerk reaction against the BR, or anything "not Bungie," due to this fictionalized battle between Bungie and MLG.
And it frustrates me. It frustrates me that so many players hold such conviction when they have so little actual insight into the matter.
Want to know the sad thing? If Bungie had created Halo 3 and given the BR a super tight spread and low magnetism from the start, very few people would complain. Why? Its because they view anything Bungie does as good and correct and anything against Bungie's design as bad. Most posters have done very little in-depth analysis of the implications of the BR spread, they merely say its fine because its what Bungie gave them. Hell, if Bungie had created the Halo 2 BR to be a single shot weapon, NO ONE would be saying, "oh man, if only it was a three-round burst." Now, however, if you mention making the Halo 3 BR a single shot weapon, despite the obvious benefits to the gameplay, people will cry foul. Its a knee jerk reaction against anything that isn't Bungie. Its sad, but its the truth.
