"It is fine the way it is." Sorry, I couldn't help myself. That overlyused comment always brings a smile to my face.
That phrase seems to be the mantra of casual and passive gamers. Where would gaming be if everyone followed that line of thinking?
And good post, I definitely echo some of those feelings. Here's hoping we see a few changes in the way Bungie does things now that they have split from Microsoft.
It's just that some people either:
-Don't think the BR spread is that big of a problem.
or
-Feel that changing it would be detrimental with gameplay.
It is fine the way it is, and I don't say that because I don't care, I say it because I do care, and I feel that tightening it's spread and/or increasing BR starts would be detrimental.
That being said, at least it is working as it was intended. That means it is not broken, some people just disagree with the way it was designed. The difference between you and me is that you are content with things being "fine" or "as it was intended" and I am never content with things being "fine". I use my very detail-oriented nature and perfectionism to look toward making improvements. That is what I intend to do with my life; I'm not just gonna sit back and agree with everything that comes my way.
If you did care, then you would find that there are obvious problems with the BR's design. Even some of the biggest Bungie supporters dislike certain design aspects of that weapon. "Fine" is a word used by someone who is indifferent or has an attitude of the "whatever" variety. "Fine" does indeed mean you don't care. With that feeling, there is no way to progress. Those who complain are much more helpful to society than those who always say things are fine.
The future is very important to me, and I am not going to let someone like yourself tell me that saying something is "fine" is ok; it is not. Push foward to tomorrow and quit being content with today.
Unfortunately for me and others, in my eyes, Halo has gone backwards in terms of gameplay design. Problems that weren't present in Halo:CE became present in the later installments. I believe you should improve on what you have; not create more problems like what Bungie did with the latter. That is what Bungie did when Halo 2 came out. Then, with Halo 3 they tried to fix these issues which then created other problems. They didn't really move foward as far as gameplay, IMO.
The only element in Halo 3 that I would even come close to considering it as "fine" would be the Sniper, and that is because the bullet trajectories and whether a bullet connects on the target are all controlled by the players (in good connectivity conditions); not some in code random number generator.
I believe that Bungie's map design team had some of this "fine" attitude. It was like they just threw something on paper and then created it; forgetting about what makes a map well designed. But, I bet they were saying "Oh how pretty". Unfortunately, prettiness isn't what makes a map fun; and in some cases, graphical detail can deter from the gameplay.
And, the job that Shishka and his team does is another problem altogether.
There are poor choices of design with Halo 3; alot actually, no doubt. I just wish people like you and anyone who has ever posted "it is fine" or "suck it up" in a thread would realize that there a ways to make improvements and look into the future. I have even seen Employees with this attitude and it makes me sick.
Sorry, for my lecture. Just be glad I was nice enough to apologize; I'm not in a really good state with Bungie and their community. Be careful with your wording if you reply; I may get really offensive. (I'll try not to, but there are no guarantees. ;)
