... but if all of MLG disappeared tomorrow, Halo 3 would still be the most successful game franchise on XBL and no one would even notice they were gone.
Oh really?
Is that why CoD4 has held the top XBL spot many a time.
Are you trying to make a case that MLG has something to do with Halo 3 ousting COD4? Or simply that COD4 happen to be at the top of the charts for awhile...then dropping after it's populartiy faded over time?
If you mean the former...well...I'd love to hear THAT theory, because that would be like saying the Star Wars Holiday Special helped Return of the Jedi be successful.
If you mean the latter...and you're taking issue with my use of the phrase "most successful"...then my point is actually bolstered by your mentioning of COD4 - because even after the "next big thing" (COD4, in this case) faded in popularity, Halo 3 is still going strong...unlike almost every other title on XBL, which fade deeper and deeper into obscurity when people stop playing them and never come back.
And...what you say is largely irrelevent to my main point, which is that when you look at the numbers the minority of BR complainers are a statistically insignificant group, who don't come close to speaking for the "true fans", the "competitive community," or even "MLG."
Oh really?
I was speaking toward the latter, about you boasting that Halo 3 was the most successful game on XBL.
Lets look at the XBL 2008 stats:
CoD4 #1 XBL Game: 23 times
Halo3 #1 XBL Game: 6 times
CoD4 Higher XBL Rank then Halo 3: 25 times
Halo 3 Higher XBL Rank then CoD4: 5 times
Hmmm... so now, how is CoD4 "fading in popularity", and Halo 3 "the most successful XBL" game, when it beat Halo 3 5:1?
It's just the other way around, Halo 3 is fading in popularity, while CoD4 is gaining.
