So how does a "Random element" take away from the game?"
Every competition that I can think of has random elements in them-- Football has weather, injuries, etc.. Baseball has different sized stadiums and umpires that can't call the strike zone, etc.. -- and the teams and players in these sports have to deal with randomness every day if they want to be the best. So how can someone claim that a random spread takes away from the skill required to win? People that claim to be great say that the spread gives a chance for a "noob" to get a kill-- well if I'm not mistaken Fresno State just won the College World series! I don't think a team like North Carolina was complaining about the randomness because they lost to a "noob" like FSU.
I'm sorry, but I fail to see how they are random events. In sport, it isn't as if the players will be standing around waiting for the kick-off, a random value will pop up and someone will have a broken leg. No, that is the randomness that is experienced in Halo 3. In sport, injuries are a direct result of an event, be it a collision or incapacity to sustain a high level of effort. The result is determined by events, eg. collisions, whilst the BR spread is determined by a random value.
So even though a football player gets in thousands of collisions during their career without incident, that one time they tear up a knee or break a bone cannot be random? I'm sorry, but I fail to see how you came up with that logic-- every block or tackle is not the same, and random, even "freak" injuries can and do happen. Sometimes they even happen to the best teams, at the most inopportune times.
I'm not trying to attack you or anything, just stating my opinion.
