Greetings bungie and her avid playing generation,

Yesterday on June 29th 2008 Haloboom was released. Haloboom is a program that creates an endless loop of malformed in-game packets which in turn completely freezes and locks up a server. Some of the more childish and immature players have began to massively shut down hundreds of paid dedicated servers.

This will not only hurt the players but also cause severe interuptions in the business of server companies. The "Haloboom" knocks out the Dedicated Hosting Server that the game is hosted on, along with every other game running on that server. Hosting companies are now considering dropping Halo entirely from being hosted.

It is in everyones best interest if you can quickly come up with a completely workable solution to solve this issue. If you overlook this issue I will have to take a more drastic action by alerting the press/media about your lack of support for your customers.

Luigi Auriemma - Programmer,
This vulnerability is exactly like the old one I found over 3 years ago
in version 1.06 (haloloop) and which was fixed (or it's the case of
saying partially fixed) in version 1.07: an endless loop caused by a
malformed in-game packet which freezes completely the server.

All of the servers are already down, and are systematically and constantly being taken down by the minute. This is already vastly public and readily available to anyone with cruel intentions. I post this for Bungie to look into.

The program itself can be found here:

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

Way to post it for all to see. Jackass.

Ya really....remove the links to that please.

A petition to get this fixed has been started.

Currently my clan's servers are up, but they keep getting taken down.
We know WHO is doing this, but we can do nothing to stop this, we need help from bungie on this one.

I have also looked at that code, I see why it loops, but can do nothing to create a patch to fix the program.

Well, well, I came back after such a long time of neglecting myself from this place only to seek an answer to my theory; the Halo PC forums are still filled with people whose IQ hardly rival that of an ant. And guess what, I was right.

Now, I would like your home address, KittenMilker, so we can discuss this a bit further. Don't worry, it's not like I'm going to take an ice pick and torture you and tear out your brain through your ear-hole and leave it somewhere for vulteres to feed and get stupid for further -blam!- up a game that I would casually play with friends and have fun. Seriously, you're fine with me.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Wrong. It does not affect the entire machine. I know because I've attacked myself twice with it already.

100's of people have already downloaded this program and are using it to an extreme level. It matters not if the links are posted, what matters is this issue being fixed. You guys are not looking at the real problem here. This program has been out for 1 day and already every server is out. Everytime they are restarted they are taken out again. The posting of these links does not generate more use. 1 person can singlehandedly take down every listed server.

How do you know that hundreds of people are doing this, it was my understanding that it was one person doing this to everyone. Please tell....

Also it has been 3 days, it started with 04 and spread to 07.

HaloPc.org is a league that currently supports players who still play this game competitively. It spread through this community like wild-fire. No, its not in the hands of one person LOL, its in the hands of hundreds. I did not post the information because it was secret...

  • 07.01.2008 4:38 PM PDT

I've been playing Halo PC for the last few hours now. Still works for me. :D

Now I'm not sad anymore! :D

I did realize I got shut out of games on dedicated servers mostly though. But I played about 20 games to the very end, so yeah, it's sort of ok right now.

Yes Luigi, hes a programmer. As soon as he posted, a person by the name of Zagan began sending it through a program called xfire. From that people began sending it to their friends... and now behold the epidemic. I did not ask for flaming, but if you guys wish to act like your 8 then please feel free to all you want. But it just shows how ignorant you gamers are.

I do not believe I was flaming you at all, I knew Zagan was doing it but had no idea that he had spread it around.
I am just venting my frustration, I had just purchased a server to host dedis on and this happened.

120% agree, a lot of people still play this game and have put a lot of money into this game (servers, teamspeak/ vent servers). bungie should seriously help us ( the halo 1 gaming community) by fixing this problem, by say coming out with another patch or an update. It would be greatly appreciated by the many of us who still play this great game. HPC4L.

Save us Bungie. Most people may think that Halo PC is a waste of your time, but a lot of people still play and enjoy the game everyday. Also a lot of people own dedicated servers and there money is being thrown away by these immature children. Halo PC should still be cared about just as much as any other game. I have played Halo 3 i have played Halo 2, although both are great games, i still find the most enjoyment playing Halo PC. SAVE US BUNGIE!!!!!!!!!

If you guys think that Nash posting this here was wrong shame on you.
If you are halo supporters and want this game to live and not get destroyed by kids with no lifes, you wouldnt use the program in the first place.
He is showing his major concern for this community and wants somebody to recognize this problem.

Bungie, please, this seriously needs to be fixed. I know its an old game, but its still fun for so many of us, and many others still play this game. It would be a real tragedy if it died.

surprisingly this game was still alive with all the hacks/cheats/mods.

the community always did everything it could to keep halo pc alive
this just prove how amazing this game really is...but i think the time has come to update the game to fix this horrible issue.

Bungie can't do a thing, the game is owned by Microsoft, so if we we could organize every community/clan and as many people as possible and somehow contact Frankie, he's the only one if we could get 300 people a day to send him a message who knows what could happen?
