He posted what may or may not be a valid key, that's not piracy because he hasn't stolen anything. Maybe he has a damaged copy of the game and doesn't need the cd key after replacing it. Or maybe he stopped playing the game so he doesn't need a cd key. Or maybe it really is just a bunch of jumbled letters and numbers.
Yes someone who has pirated the game might be able to use that as a valid key to play the game. But that's not his problem since he hasn't illegally downloaded the game. He just threw out a bunch of random characters, if he had illegally downloaded the game he'd be the one asking for a cd key because he "lost the cd sleave".
Nowhere in the Rules of Conduct or Terms of Use does it specifically say it's against the rules to give out a CD key. However forum rules prohibit asking for CD keys.
Oh I have glue on my lip? It must have dripped while I was huffing it. I'm so glad you pointed that out, it would have been real silly for me to have gone out like that. Thanks dude.
"Here I'll help you out etc etc it works trust me" indicates he was giving out a CD key, considering the OP was asking about finding the original key. So your random character argument is bull excrement. The characters may indeed have been random, but the post said otherwise. This guy was giving him a new key as an alternative to his problem. Now this guy may have been generous, you know, giving him HIS key because he no longer plans to play Halo on his PC, or whatever...
but you know, and I know what's up with that response. you can play semantics all you want but you know this guy was giving out a CD key that probably didn't come with his copy of Halo. period.
the OP was looking for a way to restore his key, he wasn't asking for a new one from some random forumgoer. that's why he said "no thanks, you might want to edit your post, piracy is illegal..." he made a reasonable assumption that the CD key this guy was offering him is probably a key that's been passed around a LOT in order to help facilitate the piracy of Halo PC. why? because you need a valid CD key for the game. even though Bungie doesn't explicitly say anything about posting CD keys (and I haven't checked this myself, I don't feel like re-reading forum rules) in the forum rules, I doubt that they would agree with your "for the sake of arguing" argument. now there is a supposedly valid key, readily available in the forums of a Website run by the developers of the original game that could be used to validate hundreds of illegal copies. tell me again how that's not piracy.
and I said "looks like" glue. lol
