But why would we want lead to be gone? Halo PC is fun and challenging because that lead adds skill to our shooting.

Because I've been playing hours of Counter-Strike and Unreal Tournament, and I've adjusted to no lead. Halo PC is the only game out there that has this guessing requirement to get kills.

Well then, learn to deal with the lead. I haven't played Halo CE in over a year and when I played today after around a year of CS:S and BF2 I managed to pull off 2nd or 3rd place consistently on many servers regardless of the lag/lead present. It's not the lead that's the problem, it's your skill ;3.

Thanks Roger, this was an amazing gesture to the Halo PC/CE players out there. Of course fixing the aimbot problems would be nice but I can understand that the amount of work that Bungie or Gearbox would have to put into such a fix would be too expensive in terms of man-hours for either group involved. Really the only thing I can ask for in future patches/updates is some kind of built in FoV changing option (so that in the future we don't have to bother with things like the FoV/Third Person tool from Bitterbanana) and settings options for some of the more common widescreen resolutions (1680 x 1050, 720p, 1080p, etc.). The support is already built into the game (via -vidmode command line and I assume some stuff in the console for FoV) but it would just be nice to have it built into the options menu so you don't have to rely on command line/third party software. However, at the moment I'm just happy that this whole server crashing business has been solved and that Bungie still acknowledges that Halo PC/CE exist xD. Once again, thanks for the patch!

Well just when we thought it was safe to put that Halo CD back in....Unfortunately..The same guy that released the haloloop2 exploit has now released another one that works against the new patch...It is called halofp.exe here is his website that he is distributing it from.
http://aluigi.altervista.org/index.htm
what this exploit does is make the server seem full and then after some time it crashes the server...Isnt there something we can do to stop this guy?? Roger, Hopefully you see this and its not too much to ask to fix this bug as well...This is getting rediculous....

He made a brand new one that bypasses the new patch already!

Can we get something that checks the whole Halo directory for modified/added/missing files? Someone tried to convince me that changing the aiming circle of a rocket launcher from it, to a small dot isn't hacking. Such BS. Gives them an unfair advantage that most people without the know how, don't have.

Wait, What? you placed in the top 3 in most of your games? you must be god!

The fact is, broseph, the vast majority of Halo PC players BLOW. Hard. Big ones. Trust me... my old HPC clan did/does have 300 people in it, and many of them were downright terrible. And before you say "omg that clan sux", they did pretty damn well against the other players out there.
How about we DO have a right to whine about lead. Because it's not skill that defines your ability to lead. It's luck. Anyone who's played this game as long as me or most of the guys on this forum knows that. For you to say that netcode problems make you 2legit2quit is BS.

That's not hacking anymore than changing your player color is hacking. You could argue that surround sound is an unfair advantage. Same goes with changing the gamma on your monitor for other games where it's dark.

Anyway, lets not get this off topic. The altavista page isn't working for me.

Hi , sawnose. Thanks for helping us out in a time of need. Also for perducci. This game does have an element called prediction of lead which some of the ppl have construed as luck but why is it luck when alot of us win 90-95% of the 1 v 1 battles we come upon.

As with any subject, there are many points of view. Without a doubt, 3rd party programs such as aimbot and sightjacker pc ARE hacks. Why? They give one player an unfair advantage over the next by means of illegal exploitation of software vulnerabilities. I just feel that 'skinning,' as it's called, also CAN be considered a hack, too. Think about it. Player A decides to change the circle of aim on a rocket launcher, which is pretty big, from the big circle, to a small point. This increases the player's aim with less crap on the screen. Player B's aim isn't so good, with that cumbersome circle on his/her screen. Unfair? I think so. Particularly when there are a lot of other players out there with less technical skill than the next person.

The Gamespy lobby isn't exactly scrolling a message saying "WANT AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE? GO TO WWW.GETANUNFAIRADVANTAGEINHALO.COM" telling people how to skin.

I didn't come here anyway to point anyone out or name names (which I didn't). Funny though, the particular person I was referring to in my first post xfires me and tells me to 'grow up'. Apparently someone's never heard of FREEDOM OF SPEECH!

Having that said...I'm glad to see Bungie is addressing something to do w/ Halo. Lets hope it's a step in some sort of direction. Halo PC players need it!!

I know many things that need to be fixed. Not that I think you guys have the time or the financial resources but I could tell you alot. Anyways thanks again for helping us out.

Honestly, tell me, how many players press tab to check everyone's ping and then memorize who needs what amount of lead? The quick answer is NOBODY.

Can you get USED to the lag? oh yeah. Is that a skill? no. It's not a learning curve, it's not something you earned, it's not something that separates the men from the boys. It's a broken part of a game because Microsoft tried to shoehorn in 56k support that almost ruined the online experience entirely. That's all.

Keep in mind I'm not trying to start a flame war. But since when was a -blam!- ty netcode a way of showing skill?

My own website and clan

this is damn awesome maybe bungie should make much more updates(except we know that's not going to happen)
but it would be cool.
i am going to test this asap= now

It really isn't that hard to lead. As long as you have a stable ping, it should be pretty easy.

Ryan, that doesn't make any sense. Are you trying to make some sense?

Have you thought this through at all? If there's no skill involved, what about people who consistently outshoot others? Are their pockets full of rabbits' feet? Do you really think they somehow didn't earn that?

Lead doesn't involve voodoo or sorcery. It just means that an enemy is a little bit ahead of where he appears to be. You have to gauge that distance and aim there without the crutch of a masterchief model or a red reticule. That does take skill, and it does separate the men from the boys. Play some 1v1s against skilled people if you still don't believe me.

But not Elmy; all of his shots are luck. :P

Here's an interesting stat: There have been 96152 unique Halo PC users in online multiplayer in the past 30 days! (That's the number of unique, legit "yellow sticker" CD keys seen online). This game certainly lives on.

That's odd... Last time I went to Walmart, I didn't see any CD keys at all. Aren't normal CD keys on the boxes? Heck, even the security seals were slashed off for some odd reason. Well, at least it's 20 dollars for anyone still wanting to buy it.

Whoa, leading is to compensate for lag. Imagine it like Halo 3 leading with the BR. Doing that will make you more efficient in killing. Heck, lead for everyone just in case someone's ping spikes up.

Halo comes in a box. Inside the box is a hard paper sleeve with the disc in it as well as the "yellow sticker" CD key printed on the back. It's not on the oustide of the box.

very awesome indeed. now if someone could only convince Bungie to convince Microsoft to put Hired Gun back together for a few months to fix some of the problems with Halo 2 Vista I'd be in heaven.

First of all I'd like to say a big thanks to Roger for creating this fix and for any further work he chooses to do to Halo PC. I must admit I was surprised, but it's nice to know somebody cares.

Onto the lead. Would we really want the netcode to be fixed? I really doubt any work will be done on it but one big positive for me as an EU player would be that I could presumably play more effectively on American servers, which there is a lot more of than EU servers and is a little more competitive. I can play pretty well with 100 to 200 ping, but it can become slightly impossible on Blood Gulch for instance, when players give you very little to lead when hiding behind hills. I personally think the pistol is the perfect weapon but many have argued about the power of the pistol and I think if there was no lead then perhaps things would get a little unbalanced. Also I don't think there is any luck on Halo, good players are consistently good for a reason and that is because they have practiced! We can all have bad game games though. All in all, I'm not sure if it would be a good or a bad thing for Halo but it would sure be interesting and perhaps even liven the the game up a little. Like I said before though, I really doubt anything like that will happen, it's just something that sparked my interest I guess.
