The Goal
To create, manage, and maintain a set of respectable guidelines and disciplinary actions for Clan-based play within the Halo 2 Online Community. These guidelines will be managed by a group of Clans and Clan Overlords that are determined to work towards a better gaming environment, one without cheating, extreme glitching, and poor sportsmanship. Overall, we hope to better, not only our own, but everybody's gaming experience.
Cheating
In a Nutshell
Bungie considers cheating to be the act of manipulating or interfering with aspects of the game or networking to give yourself or your team an unfair advantage.
Standby
The infamous Motorola Modem cheat. This is a well-known cheat, and perhaps the most frequently used when cheating really began on Halo 2. Causes a loss of connection between the host and every other player for a short period of time, giving the host the freedom to do whatever he or she wishes.
Dummy
The cheat that allows you to pull the flag across the map in merely a split second. Caused by having an Elite character model, and doing a bit of gymnastics on the warthog's passenger seat. It tricks the system, letting you go where your body is not, to grab the flag, and then having a teammate move your body to trigger the system's recognition of your physical location, thus bringing you and your flag back to your body.
Clan Boosting
A more recent addition to forms of cheating, this requires that members of the Clan contact another Clan, usually by phone, and arrange to both try and play a Clan match at the same time. Once in the pre-game lobby, one of the people yells through the phone. If both Clans show microphone activity due to that yelling, then they play, and the predesignated "bait clan" just immediately quits.
Glitches
Ninja-Grabbing
The usage of the proximity system used in Halo to pull flags, skulls, and other items through physical obstacles. This can be used on any item that one would pick up, but the major offense is simply on flags and skulls.
Stage Glitches
Otherwise known as getting outside of stages, this can be just as irritating as hiding the Skull. By using known problems within certain stages, the player is capable of getting on-top of, outside of, or otherwise away from the normal stage boundaries.
Flag Bouncing
This is more of a stage defect than anything else really, since it's only possible on Colossus. The physics of the conveyor belt there basically make it so that the flag will not stay on the belt. Sounds fine at first, but when you toss the flag from a high drop directly onto the belt, it causes the flag to bounce to ridiculous heights, and thus make it all the way across the stage.
Skull Hiding
The usage of little holes and corners in stages to hide the skull in locations where it cannot be grabbed. This will not often cause the loss of a game, but will become very irritating, and is not fun to encounter.
Poor Sportsmanship
Trash-Talking
Many people may not realize it, but there's a major difference between trash talking, and being an -blam!-. A bit of friendly trash-talking before and during the game is fine, but afterwards it's unnecessary. Trash-talking should remain in-game at all times, meaning that referring to one's lack of a life, family members, -blam!- preference or nationality / ethnicity is crossing the line.
Inner Turmoil
If two or more members within the Clan are unable to get along, then they have the potential to cause a great amount of damage. Others that have befriended the members in question will often get involved with the arguments, and it may very well tear your Clan apart.
The Reprecussions
Cheating
Cheating is not to be tolerated. All forms of cheating run the risk of having not only the member in question banned, but the entirety of your Clan not only banned, but also deleted from the leaderboards, removing all progress that you may have made. Any member found to be cheating should be removed immediately, and his Gamertag recorded. We will be creating a list of Known Offenders, once such records begin being taken. Then, every Clan that supports The CORP will be able to look to that list, and ensure that they do not induct any players with a known history of Cheating.
Glitching
Glitching is not as risky as Cheating, of course, but one of the primary goals of The CORP is to ensure that the playing community is as polite and enjoyable as possible, and many times these Glitches hinder that. There is a three-strike rule in place for Glitching. On the third offense, they are to be booted from the Clan, and added to the list of Known Offenders. The disciplinary actions taken on the first and second offense would be up to the member's superiors.
Poor Sportsmanship
Once again, this is in no way as risky as Cheating, but it greatly decreases the amount of fun that your opponents have, and sometimes you as well. We all understand that sometimes you get angry, but you have the ability to mute or unplug your microphone for any obscenities you feel you need to blurt out. Once again, a three-strike rule is in place for Poor Sportsmanship, and upon the third offense the member will be booted from the Clan, and added to the list of Known Offenders.
All feedback is welcome, and this list is most definitely subject to change. Official Bungie stance on cheating can be found at the Cheating FAQ
