Open the Setup.exe in the Halo CD and click add/remove. There will be an option to reinstall or uninstall, try reinstalling it which will copy over any game files that may have been corrupted.

If that doesn't work uninstall the game and delete the Halo folder, you can save your profiles to another temporary folder if you wish. Then reinstall the game and patch it.

If you downloaded the new hotfix before the problem came up, try refraining from using it to see if that's the culprit.

Ok, I just wanted to make sure all the bases were covered. But try a reinstall and if that doesn't work hopefully someone will come along with a better solution. Another thing to try is to make sure your firewall isn't blocking the program. I doubt any firewall would cause an exception with the game but it's worth it to at least check it out.
