I remember on the oldsite it was on by default, but could be disabled...

Why did they ever take that away?

Because before it worked differently where it censored the output of the site. The new one censors input. The problem is the old way was very processor intensive, and wouldn't work on a site this size. Sorry.

Would it not be possible to have it only censor the input on the official forums and all chapters that opt for it? It's hardly a major issue, but it would be nice to have uncensored discussions on my chapter's forum.

I am using a school laptop, and it has a built in censor on top of the one for the site itself. it will delete words like 'nade and ki11, and h8. It is very annoying when you can't type nade when on the Halo site.

There are so many precise, descriptive words in the English language. Is it really a problem that some of the more questionable four letter ones are unavailable?

Not complaining about that, but over at Reiginko's group we were having a very nice discussion about a political issue involving those who have chosen a different lifestyle... You can imagine how frustrating it was to either have the word Blammed the whole time, or forced to misspell on purpose.

Well, i really dont like censorship, at all. It restricts peoples ability to express themselves. And yes, you will have people that express themselves as total blamming blamholes. (yes, i know the filter doesn't get the word ass.) But if we dont let them swear, we wont know until they're inside, and they could cause more serious trouble.

Although i know this would cause possible issues with bungie.net and COPPA, but that could be resolved by tweaking the sign up thing a bit. (unless its already tweaked?)

And this all goes back to why profanity is profanite. It gets complicated, and it really all goes back to religion. I, myself, am an atheist, and would like to express (not flaunt) myself as such. I dont want to be held to standards based on religion.

And by censoring cruddy language, you're really just supporting it. Im sure all the intelligent members of the forums can keep their swearing to a tolerable level, and those that cant dont deserve to be here.

The really daft thing is that it filters 'American' swear words but not 'British' swears or any non-english ones. But i wont list the british ones for fear of the overlord

(hi, who are you, frankee you say? nooooooooooooooooo..........)
Communication ends.

I've yet to find a forum which censors out the "W" word.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

Its not really that hard to bypass word censors but having it on is fine. I really couldn't care what words you use. I've probably heard worse, but some times it's just annoying to read certain idiots posts. Thats where the word censor comes in handy.

It's annoying when a word has 2 meanings. That'd be the only time I bypass the censor. If I use it meaning the more appropriate word. Plus I don't see the need to have my post say BLAM BLAM BALMMITY BLAM BLAM. If it would say that, it's not worth reading.

It's also against the rules to dodge the filters.

That's very deep thought for something so arbitrary.

That religous stuff you mentioned almost crossed a line too. Religion has nothing to do with anything that takes place on Bungie.net.

I understand why these words are censored so I don't but occasionally I'll be using the word with a different meaning or it'll be a word inside of a word and won't mean anything inappropriate at all.

Example: The soldier c*cked the shotgun

If it said the soldier -blam-ed the shotgun, one might think he is a very kinky soldier.
