the story is better in H1. The missions seem to be more important to human survival. Like rescuing the marines all the time and captain keyes, MORE military based missions
Agreed. While Halo 2s story is more complex, it isn't told as well. Not to mention, returning to Halo...I remember the first time I played Halo 2, and finding us returning to Halo. I threw my controller down, turned off my Xbox and walked away.
I also disliked the Arbiter missions. I would play through them in a hurry just so I could play as MasterChief again. I mean, these guys are supposed to be bloodthursty aliens, trying to destroy the human race. Why should I care about them, or, more importantly, play half the game as one of them?
But mostly, Halo 2 wasn't as dark or scary or suspenceful as the original. Every mission in Halo 1, I was either excited, frightined, amazed. Halo 1 made Halo seem more like a sci fi novel, making it seem so mysterious and wonderful.
I remember storming the beach on Silent Cartogropher, and thinking 'this really feels like I'm actually part of a fighting team, a group of marines.' Halo 2 lacks that feeling.
And also because Halo 2 takes you back to Halo, there are a lot of 'yawn' moments. Example: The Flood. Been there, done that. Destoryed them already. I sure a lot of people remember the satisfaction of destorying the Flood once and for all in Halo 1, only to fight them again in Halo 2.
I think that if Halo 2 had been what it was meant to be, the fight for Earth, and only Earth, against the entire Convenant, and win in the end, it could have been better. Obviously, Microsoft wanted Halo 3. Easy. It didn't require Bungie to recraft the entire story, the clifhanger could have taken place in a Earth Battle. Maybe in Halo 3, MasterChief would have discovered the main Covenant Homeworld, and end the war. Instead, the focus returns to those ringworlds. I think by returning to Halo it kind of ruined the experience.
