By the way, I was wondering: did you notice how at the end of the library, MC clutched the Index, as if it was solid, but then somehow it fit into 343 GS, as if it was Holographic Data, and then again, Cortana had it? What's up with that?I don't care for the matter-energy conversion idea, that would produce a lot of energy. Besides, the data for converting the index back into solid stuff would include the data in the index itself. Forerunner technology includes teleportation, so I imagine that the green glowing thing was no more than a data storage device. It was teleported to some convenient place while the data it held, the actual index, was kept in Guilty Spark's shiny head. When GS gave it back to the 'Chief, he loaded the data back into a storage medium in accordance with the failsafe protocol that prevents GS from activating Halo on his own. The image of the data storage device was used as a symbol by Cortana for emphasis.
By teleportation, I don't mean some stoopid matter-energy conversion and reconstruction silliness. I like the popular idea that Halo's "teleport grid" moves people through slipspace, without any disassembly and reassembly.
