This preview goes through alot of new features. Included is the ability for Master Chief to sprint when both weapons are holstered, the ability to peer around corners, and alot of new AI.

But read the last line of the 4th paragraph. It says

"And while the last thing we want to do is spoil any of the game’s rousing story, let’s just say this: The Brutes share a very special bond with the Flood."

Any ideas what that could mean?

It means nothing. The guy is obviously mistaken and nothing more than a rampant fan. Bungie didn't say it, therefore it means piss.

Bungie has already stated this before, it doesn't mean brutes literally have a bond with the flood, it means they are like the flood fighting on both sides (killing humans and covies)

THEY ARE PART OF THE COVENENT. THEY ARE. notice in first strike at the end that the prophet talks to tarturus or whatever his name is, the brute. and the brute is his servent therefore part of the covenent.

I think all it means is that the brutes are going to be pains in the ass to kill and that shoot them down, doesn't mean they'll stay down. I think I read something like that somewhere... That and the Brutes were rather badass in "First Strike." Even MC had trouble fighting just one. Then again he did go through a lot of -blam!- before that...

In halo 1 when you shot a flood warrior they might get up and start fighting again. It has been confirmed in halo2 the brutes will get up after they appear dead, as shown in the e3 2003 demo. Ever think of that?

Brutes are possibly the earliest forms of the Flood. Maybe that the Brute species goes way back to the Forerunner time, and the were like the Covenant in the way of Searching for a way to destroy the Universe. And the Brute armada landed on the first Halo and got infected by the Flood Spores. Therefore being the first Flood combat forms.

Obviously this guy is talking about something Bungie hasn't revealed. Sure the Brutes are aggressive towards both covenant and flood, but there is something more...

Maybe the brutes are old enough that they are the most experianced fighters with the flood or something.

One thing though. We keep associating the forerunners with the covenant. What if thats a very wrong thing to do. What if the covenant just found out about the forerunners. Clearly forerunner technology is not synonymous with covenant technology. Guilty spark, the little flying guard things (forgive me I have forgotten their name) don't really look like covenantish technology or vice versa to be more accurate.

It's odd, I don't remember him saying anything about destructable enviroments, and he doesn't know the SMG, if he doesn't know this, is it very reliable?

Maybe they mean that the brute's body is very compatible with the flood parasite, and Frutes (Copyright) will be extremely hard to fight.

  • 06.25.2004 10:44 AM PDT

That's a great preview. Anyway, I believe what he sayed about the Brute's and Flood's bond is not in a good way. I think the Brutes and Flood fought a long time ago and they carry bad blood to this day.

WTF Canoli actually not spamming and he's making sense?!? Repent.....God is coming!

Anyhow, I think you guys are looking into this wayyyy to much. Whoever said the Brutes are like Flood in the sense that they might not stay down is probably the most correct. This hoopla about them being forms of each other is just a rumor waiting to run rampid in these forums. Again, think of the brutes as just being big bad a$$es and getting up when you think they're down.

What if brutes are actually elites that have been tested on by the covenant when the flood are introduced forming a breed of super covenant

What if the Elites and the Hunters got togeather for a mixer and a few of them got drunk and had a little night time meeting and then the covenant go the idea to keep breeding them

What if the moniter is behind everything (he may be an AI but i think he may hold the spirit of a forrunner)

What if the WHOLE halo universe is just a sick and twisted virtual world controlled by robots to keep everyone in check and the moniter is like an agent as in the matrix and the forrunners are the decendants before that time and created the robots who enslave everyone now...
