Five Tenets of Bungie.net Forum Life:
1. Trolls will always be well fed.
2. Blame-ability thy name is stosh.
3. Bungie has no control over retail prices.
4. Watch out for low-flying defense drones.
5. Seven is not optional, but rather, an inevitability.

Play on Legendary a lot.

To beat the level "Two Betrayals" easier and faster, in the very beggining (after you clear out the first three sets of enemies and have just opened the door to the outside) kill all of the covies. Go straight up the stair well ahead of you, and get the sniper rifle. Take out all of the elites with this. Then go back and switch it with the pistol. Now, instead of going the regular way, go back to the door that leads to the control room (the one that has the two energy shields in front of it). Turn so you face the way the rest of the level is (the way you usually need to go) and jump off the ledge to your right. Keep doing this, and you will make it all the way to the ground without having to fight any of the covenant. From here, make a mad dash to the banshee. Once you get inside and take off, you've just saved some time and toil, damage free!

When playing Legendary, take your time.
If you rush through it like you can on Easy, Normal, or even Heroic, you'll get swabbed with plasma many a time. Find your own pace--it's different on almost every part of every level.
Practice makes perfect!
And after (or while) you're used to Legendary and can do it blindfolded, take some time to find the easter eggs and cool glitches in the game. They're worth the search if you enjoy the game.

* Complete sections of the game (The Flood levels) in Heroic to get your overall gameplay and reflexes better.
* Complete the entire game in Legendary. This will most likely increase your spontaneous accuracy (taking out enemies while under fire). It will be hard to complete but grit your teeth, carry on regardless and you'll eventually finish.
* Play against the best players you know in Multiplayer. If you're better than them then you're sorted (for now). If you're not then they're most likely quite the pro and will need some extra practice. Practicing includes increasing accuracy, control, strategy and being inpredictible. It also means having frequent matches against better players.

The key to a great player is being able to take on anyone. A complete stranger or even put up a good fight against some of the best in the Bungie team.

Anyone can be the best when playing friends who you've played with or against for such a long period of time. The key is being able to give out carnage to a complete stranger who was a completely unknown strategy and gameplay to anyone else you know.
