Most CD drives cost around an est $20 (Thats what I saw at the last cpu fair).
Whatever you do, don't try the cracks. They work terribly and never give a full server list from all the reports I've seen.
However, if you can get on another computer and know how to make an ISO I don't see why using a copy of halo you paid for would be a bad thing... It'd just be like making a back up technically and would more than likely run faster since most hard drives nowadays have better RPM than most CD drives. I don't see how making an ISO would be piracy since you brought it, you should be allowed to back it up and enjoy it. Especially since its getting harder and harder to find Halo PC in stores these days.
That and most companies like blizzard are making ISOs and official no CD hacks since most of their own cd game discs are burning out by now and offering support to extend the life of the game for the consumer usually means a potential future consumer for their future products.
