I've encountered this problem a few times and haven't found a fix. When playing LAN with a combination of 360's and normal Xboxes, the 360's have a slower framerate, and muddier textures.

Could this be to do with the 360's display settings? The times I've encountered it, the 360 was playing on a different TV than it normally was, and a couple times the TV was HD, but it was only using standard cables to hook into it.

I know most people haven't experienced this issue, but we've obviously been doing something wrong because it's happened every time we've tried.

The 360 has been known to have problems with that. It actually runs the game slower because everything is emulated and translated so the 360 can display and run the game. Obviously, the old Xbox doesn't have to do that so the game runs just a tad bit faster.

There were always texturing problems in Halo 2 but the 360 just makes it much more apparent since its much slower.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is a possible fix because its a problem with the emulator itself, not the cables or the game. Unless they release a bug fix, the only way the game will run as smooth as possible is that you use an old original Xbox.

Horray for actually constructive responses. GameFAQs is useless.

Well here's the other thing. We recently played with just two 360's, and it ran smooth, like normal. When you play 1 player is runs smoothly as well too right? (sorry, I'm not an actual 360 owner, I'm just the one organizing these LAN parties usually). It only seems to do it when connected to a normal Xbox. I've seen a bunch of places across the internet of people who have tournaments and stuff, mixmatching 360's and Xboxes, but if they were to have this problem, there's no way it would be fair for whoever is on the 360.

Is there really no fix for this? :\ And has Bungie ever acknowledged the problem?

Yeah, it seems if its old Xbox vs. old Xbox and 360 vs 360 everything works fine. They just run at different speeds for whatever exact reason. The reason above is just my guesstimate from what I've read and understand.

Campaign on the 360 works just fine, albeit with some emulator specific glitches such loading textures and models slowly and frames from cutscenes getting stuck on the screen every once in awhile, as shown here.

I don't think ever really paid much attention to it or they didn't have a way to fix it. The problem is with the emulator, I believe, which is more of Microsoft's reponsibility, not Bungie's, more or less.

I see. Well that certainly stinks, and will make putting together a 16 player party a bit more complicated now (back in the day everyone had Xboxes, now a bunch have traded them for 360s...). I guess we'll just have to put the people who aren't too hot on the 360's, and the people who care on the normal Xboxes...
