Heres what I think
There will be ways to repel boarders but it will rely on your driving skill rather than meleing them off.
Bungie mentioned that boarding warthogs was only step 1 of the phrase, knocking the guy off was another.
This gives the driver many opportunities, knocking the attacker into nearby walls, cliff edges, low bridges etc in an attempt to knock him off.
Swerving the vehicle violently, the attacker may lose their grip and fall of.
And lastly, the L trigger is the handbrake. It can be used to make dead stops and tight turns which would cause anyone on the hood of the warthog (realistically) to be sent flying!
These are defensive methods that I belive will be possible to repel attackers in the short moment before they boot you out of your position, but you'll have to be quick.
Another defensive method is not to drive like an old age pentioner, giving the people the chance to board your vehicle in the first place, though at times this will obviously be unnavoidable.
With some vehicles, like the ghost or the warthog gunner position though, I think there will be little, if any, defensive options
