Anyone out there have graphics problems with Halo 1 and Windows Vista??
My specs are 3.2 GHZ Pentium D 4GB RAM Nvidia 8800 GTX Vista Home Premium
I can't seem to find a good Nvidia driver for my setup.
HALO ran FLAWLESSLY for me when I had XP Home and a crappy old 6800 card
Now with Vista and the 8800 GTX, I have to actually turn the settings down to play online
I can't have decals turned on at all or the framerate will slow to an unplayable level
And most times i can't even get the Campaign to start. The game will totally lockup and a message saying that my graphics driver has stopped responding will come up!!
ANY SUGGESTIONS???

Such a crappy core for such a nice PC?
And halo has problems with the 8800 drivers, try the newest ones, try older ones, experiment with drivers you can find, and try the newest one.

And make sure decals are OFF!

I just got a new laptop and I'm having trouble as well. My old PC was a 1.6GHz AMD 64-bit, 512MB RAM POS with a mid-level GeForce somthingorother. Halo ran pretty well. My new PC is a Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz 64-bit, 4GB RAM with a GeForce 8600 somethingorwhosits. It runs like -blam!- with the settings cranked all the way down, but I can play Oblivion cranked almost all the way up. I'm just loving Vista so far.

Strange, I had a problem with decals before, but I dont know if it was the new drivers or not, but my 8600GT just worked well with decals. No problems

By core do you mean my processor??
I know that it is my downfall. Right after i bought this PC, the core 2 duos came out.
Now I'm regretting it :( :(

For Halo your cpu is well qualified and will not bottle-neck. It should run perfect, My friend has the trial running on a Athlon 2000+ and it runs fine.

Most games should run good on your pc. And Pentium D is dual-core but the Architecture is not the greatest. What is your FSB?

Which driver release are you using?

The newest one, which would be 175.19 though it worked with the 169.25 perfectly

Hmm, I'm reluctant to switch to that one, I've heard some bad things about it.

I have the same problem with my 512 MB ATI Radeon HD 3650. My specs are 2.2 GHZ Core 2 Duo 3GB of RAM, Vista Premium, plus the Radeon, Inside a Dell Inspiron 530 (yes, I know it sucks). It has problems showing some effects. But my last computer's specs were 1.6GHZ AMD Duron, 512 MB of RAM, an ATI Radeon 9600 XT, XP Home SP2, on an old AMD motherboard, and it ran flawlessly.

Well, nVidia drivers hate me. When I try to open the control panel after about 30 minutes after I turn on my computer, I get the BSOD. Happens in every driver version for me.
