A vast majority of Bungie.net users seem to have the idea that Brutes are the guardians of the Prophets and that is why they are so important.
The only thing that I can say is where did you get this information?
It isn't in First Strike, as in there Cortana states that they are temple guards, ie they guard temples, not the Prophets.
In the last chapter it specifically states that the high prophet is being guarded by Imperial Elites, ie the best Elites of the army. Brutes aren't guarding the Prophet, Elites are.
In the Flood, not a single Brute is guarding the minor Prophet he is on the bridge, with Elites or with the council, who are Elites.
Therefore it isn't a question of Prophet rank as all seen Prophets have been guarded or in the company of Elites, not Brutes.
The very fact that in First Strike a Brute was allowed into the royal chamber to speak to a Prophet direct caused a shocked effect on the Elites meaning it isn't a common occurance.
Therefore I would have to say many people are mistaken, very powerful Elites are the guardians of the Prophets, not Brutes.
Brutes guard the holy temples and things like that.
I may be wrong and perhaps in Halo 2 Brutes are the Prophets guardians but all evidence I've seen thus far makes me think otherwise.
Before you make a post I suggest you read the last part of First Strike to see what I mean. Also if you have any information about the Brutes guarding the Elites that is 100% proof, feel free to post it as i have no problem about being proved wrong as long as it is backed up.

They want the 'Halo.' But I tell them: 'No! No Halo! For you, only the 'Frenzy'! The 'Frenzy' and maybe some 'Munch'

I think that screenshot was just showing off the brutes and prophets, as opposed to showing a connection between the two.

The fact that we haven't seen any Brutes since around "First Srike" makes me think that the Brutes are a new Race just added to the Covie's forces. The Brutes don't sit too well with the Elites and vice versa so maybe they feel that the Brutes are trying to take over their command because they are new and very powerful.

dumba$$ read the first strike correctly and ull see that it does say that the brutes are the prophets guardian it said the reason that elites arent the guardians is cause they are not calm warriors so they rather show there religious belief in the battle field.but the brutes are calm and they show there religious belief by protecting the prophets .i suggest u read the book again u blam!

I think you have read in incorrectly and I shall now prove you wrong. Unlike you I have evidence.
First Strike, page 339

"Come closer, Tartarus, and report."
A ripple of shock passed through the Imperial ELITE protectors. They had NEVER seen such a creature allowed so close to the Holy Ones.

This first quote clearly shows Elites guarding the Prophets not Brutes and also that this was the first inccident a Brute was allowed to speak directly to a Prophet.
Sorry for the caps but, IF BRUTES CAN'T BE SEEN NEAR PROPHETS NORMALLY, HOW CAN THEY GUARD THEM???

First Strike, page 310

"Another Cortana voice broke in over the first: "Also be advised, Chief, that there are ceremonial guards in this temple - a race which we have not encountered before. Roughly translated from Covenant dialects, they are called 'Brutes'.

So there you go, Brutes are ceremonial guards not Prophets guardians as at this moment in time Elites are. Though this may change in Halo 2.

Sure, whatever, I've ead the book, Brutes are only mentioned and seen in the last few chapters and in not one of them does it say any of the bull you stated. I think you should re-read the book, not me, as I clearly have evidence to prove my statements whilst yours does not exist, at least not in First Strike where you claim it too.
Any viable contradictory evidence still wanted.

during 'the flood' the brutes had a massive brute convention to go to, and that is why they were not around..

Zamamee is right it says the High One dismissed the 300 elite Protectors. I think we should worry about the Prophets physic abilities too. I also think that 343 GS is coming back to be very annoying yet again.

Hmm... well Brutes appear to be new in the covenant, so may may overtake the Elites eventually because of the superior strength/speed. But as of now the Elites are the guards of the prophets.

Yes I do agree that elites outnumber the Brutes by a large factor, but does that matter? I didnt mean overtake the Elites by force, I meant that the prophets will grow to like them more.

lol i didnt mean like a coup 'de tat or "blow of state" or anything like that, but wasnt it clearlyy stated by zamamee that brutes are never really around prophets, although im sure prophets might grow to approve them more

Prophets do see Brutes as "the perfect instrument" as it says in First Strike, I was just stating they are not the Prophets guardians as there are so many forum users who are deluded and think that the Brutes are the guardians and always flame me when I said otherwise.
So I made this thread to prove them utterly wrong and to show them, that I, Zamamee am the true king of all Covenant knowledge!
<cough>
but you get my point, too many people think too highly of the Brutes

i see ur point, elites in fact are the guards, and other ppl think too highly of them, brutes are guardians of temples and such right, correct me if im wrong, but they look more suited to guard structures rather than prophets

Nice one zamamee once again you've proved that you know what you're talking about. I for one am getting sick and tired of hearing about the brute/prophet link and setting them straight is something that has happened at last. Hearing about brutes all the time has made me dislike them quite a lot.

The thing i want to know.. Can all brutes "tear hunters in half" or was that just Tartarus who could take on hunters?? Its just i'm particulary irritated by posters who say brutes can "tear hunters in half" when info is so sparse and (in my opinion) this seems so unbalanced!!
