those prophets are quite ambitious. its been mentioned before but if the covenant splits what do you think it will be like? My hunch is Elites, hunters, grunts vs Prophets, brutes and jackals (and i guess engineers). Who knows where the other covenant species would go...

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

Here's a rundown...

Grunts: Bottom of the ladder, treated like crap by ALL Covenant races, they seem content though as just being Cannon Fodder and they bred like rabbits so it fits them. The only race they dislike/hate are the Jackals and they see themselves as thier better.

Jackals: Bottom of the next to the Grunts, the Covenant races also treat them poorly, as poorly as Grunts is not known though. They see themselves as the better of Grunts, and dislike/hate them. It is not certain how deep this hatred goes, since in The Flood Yapyap was able to not only gain the respect of the Jackals he commanded but also was seen as an honoary Jackal by them... so this may be a clue to hint that they would not go into an all out conflict.

Hunters: Little is known about them at all, they do not seem stupid though as many think they are. In Fall of Reach two seemed quite smart in thier handling and study of the artifacts on Cote D Azur. They barely acknowledge the exsistance of Grunts or Jackals, as evident in FoR when a Jackal had been crushed by a Hunter simply because he was in the way. Hunters have no problem following orders from Elites and Elites have much repect for them so thier is no dislike/hatred thier. It is unknown about the relationship with Brutes yet.

Elites: Top of the chain in the Covenant armies, before the Brutes came into the picture. They treat the lesser races, (Grunts and Jackals), like Fodder, and have respect for the Hunters. They are a proud race that seeks glory in battle, and see themselves as just under the Prophets. There is a growing hatred toward the Brutes because it seems that they are replacing the Elites as the ones whom the Prophets favor.

Brutes: Nothing is known about thier relationship with the other races but it is assumed they are like the Elites, exepct they dislike all of them and see themselves as the most superior. The Brutes are gaining favor in the eyes of the Prophets and so this has angered the Elites who are proud and this is the cause of the hatred. The Brutes also seem to be involved in some sort of scheme with the Prophets and this may also be why they are now closer to them than the Elites who are in the dark currently. Where they Brutes came from is a mystery since it seems they were never even mentioned or heard of in Halo CE or the first two books.

Prophets: Little is known about them except they lead the Covenant races and guide them as religous leaders as well. They claim to have evolved from a Forerruner homeworld or something close to that too. They seem to keep to all the races in the dark save the Brutes over what they are doing/planning with the Forerunner artifacts they work so hard to procur. Now it is not known whether all the Prophets are in on this or simply a few. We will just have to wait for H2 to come out it seems.

And finally the Engineers: They are also something new and not heard of talked about in the first two books or in Halo CE. They have little fealty toward anything and it seems they could careless what is going around them. This is shown in FS how they are easily persueded to help the MC and the others in thier efforts. They are simply there to fix and repair, nothing more, nothing less.

Hope this helps... oh and IMO if a war broke out, it would be the Prophets & Brutes against everyone else.

Sure, that pic is not from the game. It was shown when the designer was mentioning how he made aliens in the documenatary video and as prophets and brutes are the new races they we're shown together. Not from the game simply when they were testing programming etc
Didn't the fact that they we're in the middle of nowhere make you suspicious?

What i dont get is that prophets are the religious leaders... the elites guard them... but the brutes guard the temples... bit odd ain't it... ?

It is not a pic, it is a quote from the Covenant Primer! What else are you going to listen to? Try to read my post before you answer my question.

The Engineers talking only to the Prophets doesn't really disprove anything. Perhaps the Prophets are the only ones who understand them. Engineers are very close to the forerunner technology that they find as are the Propets and i'm sure they have a lot to discuss on the subject.
The phrase simply means who has more power, the elites or prophets? when the pact was first made the two races (prophets and elites) were almost equals. the fact that engineers only talk to prophets means that the balance of power is moreso with elites than prophets nothing to do with them guarding them.
Its an interesting point but i really don't think it disproves my theory because the Elites (at this time) are the ones guarding the Prophets and the Brutes arn't its as simple as that.

SB-117

Are you saying that the prophets have more power than the elites. It seems that way because the prophets do important research via the engineers whereas the elites are the guardians of the prophets and thus the covenant as a whole.
