if you can barely handle halo 1 then I would recomend upgrading. There is no halo2 yet though so you don't have to worry about it right now.

Heyyo,

Check the graphics card guide. ram doesn't matter nearly as much as the chipset.

I suggest the same as SLD does: ATI Radeon 9600 series vidcard, or a Nvidia FX5700. Those 2 will run halo good.. Halo2PC? depends heavily on how well the port goes.. if it goes like Halo1PC's is? you'll need stronger vidcard to make up for their coding impotence...

9600XT is the best mid-range card I've ever used. It's not expensive, but you get great performance.

9600 XT is a mid ranged card. X700 PRO is a mid ranged card too. Strange.

you absolutely need something with 32MB and Transform&Lighting capabilities. I can run Halo with my GeForce 2 MX/MX400 64MB with a half-gigabyte of RAM.
As for NVidia cards, I would suggest something in the FX family like 5600 or 5700 if you're on a $100 budget. But if you've got $130 or so, go to Pricewatch.com and you can find a GeForce 6600 w/ 256MB starting at $125.

For nVidia probably anything in the 6000s and for ATI 9800 XT or an X700 Pro (there is no XT yet) would probably handle it. If you have only PCI, then you will probably not enjoy playing Halo 2 and Halo 1 for that matter....

I got a dell dimension 3000 2.4ghz but only pci slots and i can run halo pretty well. Don't get the impression that pci slots are terrible. I can also run half life 2 at full and have no issues. I have a pny 5500. Now, mind you, the whole comp cost $400 so I'm happy with the performance.

No. 9200 is a pretty slow graphics card, but it's an SE version, so it's basically a stripped down version of the 9200. Your processor? What's its actual name/speed? Cuz Semprons can actually be good for gaming. They are still selling quite a few.

Halo 2's graphics aren't likely to be better than HL2's, in fact probably not as good, unless they seriously depart from the xbox's limitations. a 9600 can run HL2 very well, and anything over a 9800 owns it, which raises the obvious question: will they make Halo 2 to run that well like HL2, or will they do another rushed half-assed job?

latest ATi, best card in the world, is the x850 pci-e. no idea about the next but we don't need it yet!

The X850 XT is going to be very good for a long long time.

In order to play Halo 2 on pc you require a high-end video card that supports the "time travel" function. However, since Bungie/MS have set no specific date as to when H2 PC will be released, you have to take a bit of a gamble when entering the future date coordinates. I guessed it'd be out in about a year's time and programmed my vid card to take me to the future. Maybe made a mistake or something because I ended up in a horrific alternate reality where women advertised their fertility by braiding their unkempt armpit hair. Or maybe that was a bad dream, and video cards can not in fact transport people to the future.

Hope this is helpful, well, no not really.

Heyyo,

Yeah, HL2 pwns in preformance & graphics. Valve did miracles on that game. :)

Us? wow, we're gonna need to pray that Halo2 runs at least half as good that Half-Life 2 does... tbh, I'm pretty sure we're gonna be screwed outta good Halo2PC game preformance...

Sure hope they learned from their mistakes in Halo 1. The only thing they had better get absolutly right is the multiplayer cause I dont want to have to deal with crappy programming and huge lag.
