I mean no one ever really said why the covenant hate the humans.
Except the covenant did say it was the will of the gods to kill the humans, but that isnt a good enough reason!

It seems so for many religions here on Earth so why not for a bunch of big space bad-asses? Maybe they saw a prophecy where we kick their ass and kill them all and they wanted to attack as a pre-emptive measure to stop us while we were weak or they saw their god(s) being destroyed by us, found it to be a threat and went accordingly.

Hikaru 119

I never thought of that. That is a very good reason...

The War will wage forever; though with it's fury comes a peace that you will never know here.

Perhaps the humans colonized planets that were part of the Covenant domain. Besides, the humans would'nt have known that they were colonizing planets that belonged to alien races.

The fact that the Covenant didnt offer humans a chance to 'join their religion or die!' is puzzling. Perhaps they know something about humans from the Forerunners' technology and facilities.

perhaps the covenent discoverd a piece of literture talking of a race that resembled us and it said that we were (are) terrible creatures or something (read my new post)

I don't mean to judge and while others beleive that the Covenant has seen the Marines destroying them I think that is just way out of there. I really think that if they were enemies to the "gods" is a good enough reason, but I really doubt they can see the futur.

we dont know that they didnt give us a chance, maybe the dumbass people on the planet they talked to us on rejected their religion and them, no one knows what happend on that planet, we just know that we lost contact and met aliens.

I heard that one time the covies came to visit and we stole all their cats, they really loved them, and so they got pissed and -blam!- all over everything. Then everyone's memory was erased and everyone respawned. Except the covies spawned at our old world where we had dominant technology, and we spawned in this piece of -blam!- earth. Then someone realized what had happened and the covies declared war. But this is all very hush-hush so don't tell anyone.

i think that the covies fear us becuase of our potential as a race, i mean we are putting up one hell of a fight going against the covies all by ourselfs. they are just afriad, i also think it is connected with the forerunner, but thats just a theory
they hate us for our potential, we got so far just by ourselfs, we are adaptable, we can live in almost any climate, we are smart. they are just afraid

I believe it is becuase of our descendancy of the Forerunners, the Prophets know we can become powerful once we reach our full potential, becuase the Forerunners once were. Maybe the Spartans are the beginning of our Potential. If anyone has read "First Strike" when they destroy 500 ships, that is just a tiny dent it there army. Proof that the covenant has been planning this war.

maybe they didnt give us a shot for peace because they underestimated us, saw it as a 24 hour war, but got more than they bargained for. thats my two cents, grunts own all

the covenant are propably very afraid of us(especially the elites and prophets and other 'high' ranking races). But they almost get us whiped out ,so when we are almost extinct, they will laugh in alien tounges to see our efforts to survive, those bastards!

maybe the forerunners genetically engineered or guided the covenant races and they think because we evolved on our own we are not "blessed" or we are an abomination.
on the other hand maybe the forerunners engineered us and the covenant see us as unholy galactic test tube baby freaks.

I didn't read all the posts, and this may be completely wrong or already mentioned:

When the Forerunners 'visited' the place, planet or group of plantes (you get the idea) they gave them technology, if the Covenant would honor them as their Gods. The same was proposed to the race living amongst or nearby the Covenant, but they refused to worship the Forerunners.

So the Forerunners created the Flood to wipe out that particular race (I don't know their name), the problem was, the Flood not only attacked them, but they attacked the Covenant as well.

The Forerunners decided that the Flood had to be contained and thus created the Halo's. They were meant to be destroyed in the first place, but seen as they couldn't cause any harm they were left alone deep inside the Halo's.

Apparently, the humans resemble the unnamed species (the one's the Flood set out to destroy). The Covenant think we are the 'left overs' from that species, and that's why they want to destroy us.

Anybody else read this one yet? I heard or read it somewhere a while back, and I believed it ever since. But I don't know for sure if that's the actual real story, or something a fan made up. As I said, I can't remember where I got it from.
