This is a reply to an older post about just what the forerunners are. Sure, Bungie says they were a God-like alien race, but I have my own idea.
In the "making of halo" video, it was said that they wanted to make it seem like there was a history between the humans and covenant that stretched far back into the past. Guilty spark was also quoted as saying to the MC "LAST TIME, you asked if it were up to me, would I do it? There is no choice, we must activate the ring." Or something to that effect during the course of the original Halo (during the movie sequence just after the MC first encounters the flood). What exactly did he mean by last time?

Perhaps humans and coventant (both at their technological prime) were at war thousands of years in the past when the human race decided to implement a biological warfare strategy (i.e. the flood). Only things went terribly wrong and both races were decimated to near extinction.
The human survivors were taken to earth via a colony ship which crashlanded and thusy destroyed any data on their previous civilization.
Over time spoken history became only myth, and both civilizations expaned into their current technological states.
I thought that might be a cool twist... with the covenant treasuring an old enemy's technology, and attempting to wipe out those whom they now call god.

This may be a lame thread, but the story in Halo had to be what made the game so cool to so many of us.

Thanks for listening to me rant.

That's actually a cool theory. I suck at this weird theory stuff, so I'm just going to comment on yours. I like it.

Yeah, and the Prophets are looking for the "Lost artifact", really it's the crashed colony ship,
And they finally find out that humans are the people that they worship, and at the same time trying to wipe out
BRILLIANT
that would be a huge plot twist.

Thats great and all, but in Halo there were no covie characters, like they never showed an elite finding out his best freind died. The plot twists will involve humans because, well, we are humans. You wont see an emotional prophet, possibly other than the high prophet. Now i suppose it is possible that chief uncovers a document, but i doubt it.

when 343 said, "last time" he was speaking about the last person to come and try to stop the flood. If you read the book Halo: the Flood, you find out that a Marine (yes a regular Marine) got about halfway through the Library before dying. MC saluted him.

Nice theory. SO you're ssaying that earth is not our home? As a plot twist, wat if we ran into survivors with amazing tech. and they're our only hope to win the war. Like all of their soldiers are spartan like things and one human could kill like 30 elites EASILY. Because you did say the flood decimated BOTH species so their tech had to have gone down too

Thanks for the thoughts.
You should know that I have not read the books, nor think that my idea will ever influence Bungie considering that the game is practically complete.

Just a fan writing down some ideas...

Please realize this is only a game and not reality, so there is no need to get angry or condecending. Everyone has valid thoughts in these forums, and I just thought you guys would like to ponder a little beyond what has been revealed to us.

Take it easy,
KT
