Orbital Drop Shock Trooper. They are elite Marines, what we would call Navy Seals.

They aren't really Navy Seals. They are stealthy guys. The Helljumpers are definetly NOT stealthy. Also considering they're MARINES.

In the books, the ODST's are the most potent fighting force at the UNSC's disposal short of the spartans. They we also around long before the spartans, and their reputations is legendary. They're swift, ruthless, and fanatical. Theyt kick ass and dont take names, but when a job needs getting done, the ODST's will do it, no matter how ugly it gets. Their credo is "Drops jets and feet-first into hell." and its branded on each ODST's arm.

They enter a combat zone in orbital drop pods that are deployed from ships in space. A common saying among the ODSTs when a pod's chutes fail to open is that they "dig their own grave."

They also hate the Spartans, there is an intense rivalry between them over who is the best. The spartans see them as a bunch of pyschos and glory hogs, and the ODST's think the Spartans are freaks. However, in Halo 2, the Demo shows the MC working side-by-side with them, they're recognizable by the helmets and bulkier armor.

very true there is no navy seal version of a marine. they have different mission objectives. the closest thing the marines have to odst would be a combination of airborne/marine recon/assult team.
they drop from high altitude almost in space in little pods. and they are elite and fearless. pretty bad ass. but they can also be a little too agressive sometimes which can get them killed. at least thats how they are described in the book first strike

Also, the ODST almost killed the MC before he was a "real" spartan. But thankfully he had enough agumations at the time to take all 4 of them without being killed.

Orbital Drop Shock Troopers are the UNSC's best fighting unit aside from the Spartans. It is an all volunteer unit, and they are known for their ruthlessness and their "Kill and then ask questions" attitude even towards fellow soldiers.

And no, they do not view the Spartans as freaks, not all of them anyways, the one you ARE refering to is Major Silva, who lost four ODST's to the 14 year old John-117 in a training excersize.

They and the Spartans may be our last chance for survival.

Thank you halifax for pointing that out. they are definitely not seals. Seals never get in all out firefights. they are stealthy and plant bombs in stuff. ODSTs run guns blazing killing everything asking questions later.
