I've heard from a few people that I should get the GeForce 6600 GT with only 128MB instead of the GeForce 6600 256MB. I was wondering why. Is is worth the $50 to get the GT instead of the normal one with more RAM? Thanks

more RAM is always good, i upgraded my comp.'s 256MB to 512MB and now things run twice as fast, not sure if the same thng applies to video cards though, cause i have a GeForce FX 5600 XT with 256 MB and it works okay.

Heyyo,

6600GT 128MB easily better than 6600 256mb

RAM ISIN'T VERY CRITICAL IN VIDEOCARDS! COMPANIES ADVERTISE IT JUST TO CONFUSE YOU THE END-USER TO BUY THEIR CRAPPY PRODUCTS!

Sry, I had to be blunt. gets the message across.

So? What matters? chipsets. The 6600 is the original, 6600GT's an upgraded chipset.. MUCH better than the 6600 one. GREAT price, GREAT preformance. ;)

The GT model is a faster card. Not sure if its $50 worth faster but if you want the best card the GT is the one you should get. That extra ram on the other one is just eye candy that you will seldom use. 128 MB is plenty of memory. SO I would research the speed differences I decide if its worth the extra $50. But the ram should not be a factor in your decision.

The Mard I was trying to get some numbers on the the speed differences but I couldn't find any and you beat me to the punch now I just repeated what you said.

Heyyo,

dude, 1 word for speed differences: http://www.tomshardware.com

Doom3:

6600GT: 86.0 F/S
6600: 51.2 F/S

OMGZ! see that? THAT'S HUGE! if you diddn't buy the 6600GT off the 6600 I'd have to say... you made a big mistake. Read the rest of the benchmarks to see other games in action. ;)

I know that many of you are on a tight budget, but you might want to consider investing in Gigabytes new dual core video card. it has 2 6600 nvidia cores, which go into its SLI 939 socket mobo. This hasn't been released yet, but gigabyte claims that it can reach the 14,000s in 3dMark 03. I got this from MaximumPC.
