Through a circus eye, I saw everything

Posted by: Xerxdeej
I am not sure what is more entertaining...

An announcement from Bungie about what they are working on?

Or the circus of rage that ensues when throngs of fanboys don't get what they think they are entitled to?

Oh, and the letter posted to the site was a perfectly reasonable explanation of events. If people are going to take up the pitchforks and look for heads to roll, you have to expect people to deflect.

Here are two sentences that could have been written in that note that may not have prevented the s#!tstorm that followed, but could have changed the entire complexion of it (and saved face for everyone)

...with our fan community during the week of E3. However, we have decided along with our publisher to postpone any announcements at this time.

We realize that many of our fans are disappointed by this turn of events; members of the Bungie team as well as our publisher share that disappointment.

That is not only basic etiquette, but business writing 101. Instead, ego's got involved and s#!t got personal. If you are the president of a company (let alone a multi-million dollar company), you have to be smarter than that. It is exactly what I said originally, third grade playground mentality. Businesses and publishers may not see eye to eye on everything, but those are things you take up in boardrooms and at business outings, NOT in the public eye.

If the letter had been written with those two changes to it, everyone would still be disappointed that there wasn't an announcement and there would still be speculation as to why, but there wouldn't be the animosity that the other two rash statements led to.

So go ahead and defend the letter some more, but think about this; if you are a 360 fan and can't stand Sony and the PSturd, do you want to see any bad blood between Bungie and Msoft? There is no better system and there is nothing like XBOX Live. Like I said before, what do you play Halo 3 on?

Were it so easy.

OK. Sounds like the project that's "familiar" and breathing on us in our sleep is the next DLC mappack which includes Moonbase alpha , Purple Reign , and hopefully an as yet undisclosed map. The project that is speeding toward us is most likely an Arcade title (not entirely sold on the arcade maybe a different IP[ hopes]). and the third project with the hints from Lukems ( forward and prolouge ) is most likely a prequel to halo, ( possibly an ODST squad based game?).
Lo means yet as in Yet there is still another.
That's my opinion, take it or leave it.

How come whenever you speak, nothing comes out?

I speak at a frequency fools can't hear.

...What? I can't hear you, you're mumbling again!

BTW, Thanks Luke for this awesome update,so many things hinted at in this update, I'm so happy! You people who say nothing new was in here, clearly didn't read in between the lines (or the actual lines, the hints were pretty obvious.)

yo.

We already know that the next project is Lego Halo, so just tell us already.

Through a circus eye, I saw everything

On the subject of the update, I've looked through most of the posts on this thread and was more than a little surprised no one brought this up (although 'larvis79' brought up the lines)

Why are the words Prologue and Forward capitalized? Lukems seems to do pretty well with his vocabulary, so why would he inadvertently write those two words like that?

Hi I'm RT and I like to argue!

Guys, for those of you who can't read, they just told us that they're working on at least three games right now.

I'm pretty sure everyone has got that idea, but thanks. I think the general debate isn't about how many projects are in the works, but rather what they might be.

Obviously Bungie are going to make another Halo game. H3 made 300 million the first week. Most likely it will be pre-Halo:CE, but anyone whose read the novels knows there are really a lot of storylines they could follow and a lot of characters already in the Halo universe that could be the center of their own game (if not something wholly new and/or unexplored like the Forerunners).

Secondly, I think it's a pretty safe assumption that since Msoft still owns the rights to the Halo franchise, that Bungie are also at work on a future AAA project that will be fully their own (one they can make without the pressure of deadlines and without having to make any concessions to anyone else).

The last, well... it could be anything. Maybe it's finally the Halo movie, maybe it's a joint project with another studio or an XBLA game. Hell, who's to say it's not a MMO Halo...

Whatever they are working on, the coming months are sure to be exciting as we all try to read the clues and understand the truths behind all their machinations to take over the world ;)

A great update... but I'm worried... why would you say that E3: Livin' the dream might come out on blu-ray??? that would mean you have to either have a bluray player or a PS3 to watch it on...

At E3, SquareEnix announced that FF13 is coming out on the 360 and PS3... I really hope your guys' annoucement wasn't on the lines with teaming up with sony and going to the PS3 with your future titles...

Please tell me this isn't true or that I'm a complete moron...lolololololol

OK, HOW ABOUT A LITTLE THEATER MODIFICATION? i.e, WHEN YOU ARE RECORDING ON THEATER, YOU CAN PAUSE IT SO THAT U CAN GET A DIFFERENT CAMERA ANGLE AS YOU RECORD, AND PLEASE MAKE IT SO THAT U CAN LOWER YOUR WEAPONS, USING THE SAME BUTTON SEQUENCE, BUT ONLINE. AND MAKE IT SO THAT THEATER MODE CAN PICKUP INDIVIDUAL OR MULTIPLE VOICES. THAT WAY, YOU CAN MAKE A MOVIE, WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT LOWERING YOUR WEAPONS OFFLINE, AND PUT IT ON YOUR FILE SHARE. AND IS THERE A WAY TO UPLOAD YOUR VIDEOS, FROM YOUR XBOX, TO YOUR COMPUTER? THAT WAY, YOU CAN SAVE MONEY, BY NOT BUYING A CAPTURE CARD OR CAMCORDER

I know that one thing is for certain, Bungie keeps their promises and they are always on the move. My good sir, by calling them to arms you have more than likely sentenced your account to death.

Until next time (or not in your case),

Don't know what you meant in the first part. But, there is a way to get files from your Xbox to computer. It's called X-Port (there's also X-Sata, except it is much worse). It costs about $50 (US).
Also, please don't type in caps.

I am almost 100% sure of what Bungie is doing. They have three projects: Halo 4, 'something completely different', and an X-box Live Arcade game (as far as we know). They were probably either going to release a demo of the 'completely different game', or release the XBLA game.

If I was Bungie, this would be my approach in what to release:
1. The 'completely different game'. If Bungie did this, it would take mostly everyone by surprise, they thought that another Halo would come out.

1.5.After this new game comes out, they bid time and hype up the XBLA game for a while, and put out expansion packs and stuff for the 'completely different game'.

2. Now they release information about Halo 4. Everyone was thinking about the XBLA game, and this takes everyone by surprise. Then they advertize for the XBLA game and release it.
Now they can hype up Halo 4.

2.5. Bungie builds up anticipation for Halo 4.

3. Bungie releases Halo 4. Now Bungie is much closer to their goal of World Domination!

4. Now that everyone expects the unexpected from Bungie, they release everything as what the Public see's as sensible, and yet again, takes them all by surprise.

4.5 By this point, Bungie's games will have been sold and played in almost every Country in the world! Now I have Seven thousand-seven hundred-seventy seven characters remaining!

Uhh...NO, NO, NO! The files that Halo 3 'replays' in theatre are NOT video files, nor do they contain audio. They are Xbox LIVE container files [CON] that contain gameplay data. Theatre simply reads the gameplay data and reconstructs the game from the info using the Halo 3 engine. All the sound in the clips or saved films is also reconstructed using the sounds in the Halo 3 engine stored on your disk. For these reasons, the theatre files are waaay less than a megabyte, usually around 800-950KB [depending on how long the clip/film is and how many players were in the game, it could exceed 2MB, but not usually more than 6MB - in extreme cases]. This is a better way to go than capturing and saving the raw video and audio for each game, because to do that in HD for ONE game it would use about 10GB or more [half the default 360 HDD].

For these reasons, saving the audio and transferring the 'films/clips' directly from your Xbox 360 console will not work. If you REALLY want to copy a film directly you can, but all you'll have is a useless file with no extension. To capture video/audio you must use a capture device [such as a capture card].

Sorry to do this on the same page but a project does not mean a game in all cases. Are we forgetting about expansions for H3. Everyone(well most) are talking about three different games. Bungie does have projects for three different games going on ,but ,one of those is almost garaunteed to be a DLC for H3.

Bungie people you are not even doing any work you always act like you are doing something, working on some big project we are going to love but the fact is you guys suck. Don't blame Microsoft for crap you made up.

You can make a case either way when it comes to not showing bungie's project.

From a business standpoint, it makes sense. Save the bungie bomb to counter a sony/nintendo surprise.

From a business standpoint, this is stupid. Make it the final nail in the coffin for the PS3. The upcoming lineup with a bungie game would be all anyone would need to buy a 360.

I'm not disappointed, I'm bored with Bungie's nonsensical updates. I would prefer no update at all because of what they have been posting, lately.

It is, perhaps, unfortunate then that we hired the guy that forces you to come to the website and read the update every Friday at gunpoint.

Our bad. =\

This comment really just pissed me off BIG TIME.
You know we don't have to read it, buy the extra stuff, or even care about anything you have in coming the future. Nor do we have to play the game or buy the add-ons.

Second, if you didn't read the updates or forums for example, people wouldn't know to use an Elite in Team Swat for its advantage. An advantage Bungie approved of.

If Bungie does not have much at the time of Friday's publication, that's fine, but, you seemingly forget whose in charge here ultimately (and I don't mean these forums): The consumer.
