Has anybody played XIII, well in that game there are grenades, similar to the frag grenades of Halo. The interesting thing about the grenades in XIII is that there is a technique to them, not just press-trigger-to-throw.

In XIII you press the left trigger to pul the pin and you can hold the grenade, that's right HOLD IT. There is a little timer that shows up and counts down to when the grenade is going to blow, I haven't played in a while, but I do believe it's like 5-10 seconds... I think 5...

BUT anyways... imagine if they had that in Halo 2... the new strategies and tactics available would be unimaginable... you could hold the grenade for a while until it's about to blow up then chuck it and have it explode right in the middle of a group of enemies and kill them all... rather than in Halo 1 where it clatters to the ground, they see it, and they run away...
or when you're being chased by someone you can hold the trigger wait until it's about to blow, dart around a corner and let it loose, then when they follow you BLAM they die...

It would be a great addition and it requires no extra button or anything just an expanded depth with grenades, since there are many people out there (not me) who are wizards with grenades, and it would be great to see what they could come up with...

Any ideas?

I agree with guythatisnick. It would make it alot more fun so that you could hold it, run up to someone before it explodes and do a suicide bomber type thing

i like them the way they are, you can already throw them so when someone follows you around a corner they die. But you will notice that in Halo a grenade wont go off untill it has a solid place on the ground...

(eg) throw it down onto a ramp in blood gulch, it wont blow up untill it stops moving, after going down the ramp if it rolls, then it will countdown and then explode...

Though sometimes you can get gibbed with grenades when that happens, i like that method

Exactly, you could go kamikaze on them when your low on health, or if there's a group of people you could get double maybe triple kill....

Edit -
It would be the exact same grenades from Halo 1, just with an expanded use and more depth making it an even more valuable asset and weapon.

I agree with guythatisnick. More options with the grenades would be a good thing, and increase the level of tactics you could utilize. Sure, the grenades in Halo work well, but when you work on a sequel your aim should be not only to get rid of what didn't work in the original, but also to improve everything that worked.

yeah I agree but the real question is what types of new grenades will there be?In the campaign e3 demo odsts' were by a corner ,tossed a flash bang and blasted the covies to the ground.that would bring new tatics to multyplayer.Or land mines.............

I used to love XIII and understand what you're talking about I think it's a good idea.

I also liked how the left button dropped the frag and the right threw the frag.

If you watched the demo youd see the time it took for the granade to explode like 2 sec. so I think that there is a option like to set the timers and like I think theres flash granades too.

Its not a flashbang...

1: he says frag and clear

2: flashbangs dont make big explosions

3: flashbangs dont hurt things, therefore the blood on the ground is caused by the frag.

Holding it is claled cooking btw... Ive always wanted that but it would be too easy to take out warthogs which i just realised myself. There used to be a skill to flipping a hog but if they implement it then there wont be anymore

It would be a pretty good idea. Maybe if you hold down L then the little countdown thing will show up until you press another button that would throw the grenade. If you just press L then you throw it and it does exactly the same thing as grenades in Halo 1. It would be a nice little added feature to help clear a base in CTF.

i think the throw delay would be cool. much more realistic like. cept no timer on screen. force you to figure you out for yourself.

All you would have to do is shoot the warthogs anyways

It does seem more realistic, however, i am reminded of the remote mines in goldeneye (yes, on N64) where you could detonate them imediately after you threw them by pressing A and B together. It was just really cheap to be able to detonate a mine in someone's face.

I think this is a very good idea, I hate it when you throw a grenade and hit an enemy dead on but it bounces away. I think that there should be grenades that explode on impact, or implemeting this idea. I think though that it would be easier to make grenades that explode on impact.

Halo's grenade system is fine the way it is, do this and the game will become a grenade fest (Like wolfenstein did)

I had wolfenstein and it never became a grenade fest infact people used grenades less in most cases then in Halo (except the camping on depot LOL) it would IMO add another level of depth to the game and that almost never hurts.

it would be really cool if you could select timer, or explode 3 secs after throw, or expolode on impact

I think you all just need to work on your gernade placement.
A timer would make it to easy.

The grenade system in Halo is beyond perfect guys. I think the exact countdown timer for a frag is .5 seconds once it is resting, which keeps with the fast-paced gameplay. Now imagine trying to fiddle around holding a grenade and you get shot, it drops, and your friend beside you is blown away. The instant throw-and-blow method of the frag should never be changed. Five seconds in Halo can mean life or death in many cases, way too long.
