Is it something that's wrong with my computer or is it the design of the site? Whenever I want to scroll down to the bottom of a page, it takes like an hour and it's all choppy....ok, so like 5 seconds, not an hour. Any help?

Try updating everything. Maybe that will work. A newer computer with full updates should not have scrolling issues.

I recently reformated this machine, did a clean install of Win XP Pro, and have all the updates known to man and then some (including the dreaded XP Service Pack 2). It's not the software.

There is also a situation where IE can get into a state where it does that, especially on complex pages. It is seperate from the Firefox issue, which is the jerky scrolling. IE experiences a slow scroll (like slow motion) and a weird typing delay. This seems to be very rare, from what I can tell.

St. Joan, I haven't been able to pinpoint it, as it seems to be network/configuration related, and hard to reproduce. I suggest trying to turn Javascript off, see if that helps. If it does, that could indicate a problem in a specific area of code on the site. Let me know. Maybe we can get to the bottom of this. Oh, another thing that I know can cause it is a messed Temporary Internet Files folder. That probably isn't your issue, but others having this problem should try clearing that folder. A little scandisk/defrag on that area helps, IE seems to be very sensitive about this area.

I tend to look suspiciously toward my hardware myself. I seem to have issues with some games on this machine too. I guess I will have to go computer shoping when we get to China.

I am posting this from Mord's computer which is both newer and better than the one I was using, thanks to the fact that our cat spilt a bud vase of water all over my laptop and turned it into an expensive paperweight. I just wanted to report that on this machine the scrolling issue is non existant as well as the typing delay. So YES, it was a hardware issue. I glad this was the case although damn pissed off that I had to find out about it this way. :(

I have the same problem, but I've always assumed it was my 7-year old computer.

No it only gives you loads of spyware when you let stuff automatically download onto your computer like toolbars or you click on a message from a website that you are viewing that says it has a "helpful program" for you.

The beta version of Netscape 8 is bascially just firefox with some plugins -- the really nice thing about the beta though is that it can render a page using the IE rendering engine. So I have it setup here to render bungie.net with ie rendering engine and I get fast scrolling...and have all the other pages I visit set to render with firefox. It's a nice feature.

The default theme is pretty ugly though.

This is only true if you don't know what you're doing (try a firewall and some more restrictive security).

And, in related news - good that it isn't the site on that scrolling issue, St. Joan. I imagine that the computer experiencing that issue was having hard drive issues - every time I have encountered that, it is a problem with the Temporary Internet Files folder.
