Looking at either a Zalman CPU Fan w/copper heatsink or the same model w/aluminum heatsink. Both are priced within $.5, so price isn't big. I'm just wondering if copper really will outperform aluminum.

In addition, while the aluminum weighs less than 500g, the copper weighs 800g, which could be a detriment as it is horizontally mounted.

Any comments or suggestions?

The temp difference will only be a few degrees in favour of copper, equally the weight difference isn't That important in favour of the alu. Personally, I'd go by appearance ;)
Seriously though I have an alu plate/heatpipe on my gfx card, it's PASSIVE and it's 10 degrees cooler than the stock FAN.

The copper looks much nicer than the aluminum, and would fit with the general coloring of my motherboard (black w/bronze and copper highlights). Guess since the weight isn't much of a problem, I'll go with the copper. Thanks guys.

The little icon over the ATi task bar thing says this:
1280x1024, (0 degrees), Color: 32 Bpp

Does that it's at its normal temperature? Cuz it can't be zero degrees or it'd be frozen!

Heyyo,

Weight's not extremely important, as long as it's below the preferred cpu/heatsink wieght. I forget what is its.. maybe 1000gms?

anywho, I have a copper one, and they work great dude. I say the heavier the better (as long as it's under preferred weight) cause it pushes down more on the cpu eh? plus copper's great at dissapating heat, probably the best.
