I realise we're all looking forward to Halo 2, but whats next? I'm pretty sure that Bungie is going to end Halo with Halo 2 and that brings up this question. What do you think the next Bungie game will be like? What genre? Looking to the past helps us guess what comes in the future, so will it be another FPS? An RTT? Will it be a third person game? All I know is itll have a story, sevens and carnage! Post your thoughts.

We're going to have to wait and see what happens at the very end of Halo2.
-If the Humans destroy the Covenant/Flood/343 Guilty Spark
-Master Cheif dies
-The human race is destroyed
We won't know, but I'm doing the pee pee dance in anticipation.

Master Chief will die eventually, whether it be in Halo 2 or afterward. I think it's quite crucial to completing the story actually. He's kind of like a savior, albeit a very lucky one. And all saviors must die for their cause. A la the Bible, or the Matrix, or lots of other references.

Only martyr's die. Bungie heroes aren't typically martyrs. =)

I think he should live on, as he goes to raise his own farm up in the peaceful hills with his new found Elite friend, as they grow vegetables and fruit and laugh over the old times when they wanted to kill each other.

You're a martyr. :O

But seriously, I think he will. Not because of anything I said above, that was just a bunch of jibberish. It's just a gut-feeling I have. And I can think of some interesting twist endings that invole him dying to save everything. And as far as typical Bungie heroes...I've only played Halo, so I'm not familiar with Myth, Marathon, or any other older Bungie game. I wish I was though...

That sounds like good game material to me. "Halo 3: Farming Evolved". And you can just play everyday life, nobody is crazy enough to have thought of that..

It would only be good if the chief became a Frog Farmer.

I wouldn't say that no Bungie hero has ever died for a cause.

What about the Deceiver (he was kinda a hero in Myth II)? He died from the resulting blast of his killing of Shiver in the level of the same name.
And Murgen died in order to free the Legion from the Tain.
Shinatama was pretty heroic, and she kinda saved Konoko by giving her time while she was advancing on Griffin. And Kerr also died to save Konoko (what an idiot! Who takes a Mercury Bow shot for somebody wearing a force shield?!).

But you're right when you say that no main characters have ever died to save humanity in a Bungie game. Except on those endings in PiD when you are killed in the explosion even if you have succeeded. But that's not the only way to finish the game - it's not really part of the definite story. Mr Security Officer never died, Durandal didn't die (well, not without coming back), Alric never died, and Konoko didn't die. She just turned into a bloodthirsty flesh-eating mutant. Or something.

So in other words, I don't think that John is going to die in Halo 2 (or Halo 3, if there will be a Halo 3).

Bungie can make either Halo 3 or the prequel to halo(they could make the prequel either after halo2 or halo3)it would be brilliant to let you train as mc at the very beginning of his training to become a spartan2.
