First of all, I've been hearing from people that you need to pay 5 dollars to reserve a copy. That's not true. I reserved a copy of the LE in EB Games, and it didn't ask me for any money. It said I had to pay only the amount the game costs, and only on Nov 9th, the day I get it. Oh, and by the way, it is true that if I reserved Halo 2 I will get it on Nov 9th no matter what right? Caz ive been hearing rumors about how if you preorder it you get it first, even before the people who reserved it. Which means, that if they run out before they get to the reserved people, I won't get it. Is this true?

So you are thinking of reserving vs. preordering. preorders would get it first.

Ya, but there's no way that they would run out of copies right? If I have it reserved then i get it no matter what right?

Why's that? I mean, my friend reserved it, he has a paper saying that he reserved it, so doesn't he HAVE to get the game?

I've reserved mine about half a year ago and it didn't cost anything, but maybe that's because people are nicer in the Netherlands.

Its a slippery slope....if someone else payed money up front, they will get it before you, so if they run out of copies then you wont get one

Well, I imagine it depends on the store you went to. I personally don't go to EB games, but here is what they do at the store I pre-ordered mine at (GameCrazy). It costs $5 to pre-order any game, and then when it comes out, you pay the rest of the money. So I put in $16 into my Halo 2 pre-order (from some sold games) and then I'll have to pay rest of the $50 on Nov. 9th (which will be $32). However, I changed my pre-order to the Collector's Edition, and they told me it cost $5 more. So now it will just cost me $5 more on Nov. 9th. As for who gets it first, they have to get a pre-order to everyone who pre-orders it. So, for example, they have 8,000 pre-orders, then they have to get 8,000 games in on that day and keep one for each person. They will then call us lucky people and wrap it in a piece of paper and put our names on it so they can't sell it. Then I'll just go down, give my name, the rest of the money, and recieve it. That's how it is at most game stores, and all the money calculations is without tax by the way. I imagine you haven't read all this because it's way too long, but I hope I helped.

Well you helped a lot, but just tell me what you think. Let's say i reserved it. Will i get it? Jus plain a yes or no.

 • 06.26.2004 2:24 PM PDT

If they have enough copies, yes. Now the ball's in Bungie's court. They're not stupid enough to undership Halo 2 and leave a bunch of fans hanging in the wind. But what if something goes wrong in the production process once the game is done?
There are always possibilities.
You just have to trust that the game will be in stores November 9th, and that stores will have enough copies.

I have preordered it from EB games, but i am wondering if picking it up from a store will get it to me faster. However EB says it ships on the 8th to get to me on the 9th but i dont know when on the 9th and i dont know if i want to trust the mail system with Halo 2.

When you preorder a game, the store employees reserve the game for you.

When you reserve a game, you have effectively preordered the game.

There is no difference. It's just that different stores use different terms for the same thing.

what's the difference between limited editions and collectors edition

Maybe I'm wrong, but most stores require a deposit (usually $5 in my experience) if they're going to hold the game for you.

Each store has a different way of doing it, and a different term for it.

At the Gamestop where my Halo 2 will arrive on November 8th (to be given to me on the 9th), they require $5 down for any game, and you can either pay the remainder of the price on the day the game comes in or at any time before the game comes out. You can have the whole game paid for before the release date if you want, but not all stores will do that for you.
Whether it makes a difference when the game comes out, I don't know.
If a store is going to give its copies of a game to the people that paid it off or put some money down on it, well, that makes some sense because the people who prepaid are showing that they really want the game.
That doesn't mean it's right for a store not to sell a game to someone who comes in with all the money the day of release.
However, some stores only get enough copies of the game based on the number of their pre-sales (or preorders, or reserves), and maybe ten or twenty more copies for those who didn't pre-pay (-order, reserve).
Having said that, keep in mind that Bungie is not going to screw their fans. As I said before, they're not stupid. I fully trust that, even if you didn't preorder/reserve Halo 2, you'll still get a copy of it. You just won't get the special silver metal box edition.

Nothing, I'm not sure if there's an official name for it yet though, so people say both.

what's the difference between limited editions and collectors edition

The words "limited" and "collector's," when referring to "special" editions of things, are essentially the same.

Again, it's just the preference of whoever is releasing the product.
Some like to call it a collector's edition to draw the collectors to buy it.
Others call it a limited edition to imply that the item will be available for a limited time. Often that's not really the case, unless maybe it's a Disney "classic" movie, but then they usually say "available for a limited time."

limited edition is exactly that
limited
once they run out they won't make any more

collectors edition has extra stuff like the extended versions of lord of the rings series

I was talking to some guy at my local gamestop and he said that they put in orders for the game depending on how many people reserve it. This order goes in to bungie and they pump out the games to fill the order. Unless something goes wrong, like a shipment crashes or a production line get broken or something, everyone who reserved it, no matter how much money they put down, will get the game on Nov. 9th.

Some companies don't follow through on the limited part of their limited editions, though.
Take the limited edition of the movie "SE7EN." The company was supposed to pull it and rerelease it in a crappy single disc edition (like they did with Fight Club), but you can still find the limited edition in stores.

I'm not disputing what you're saying, just saying some companies don't keep their promises.
