There is all ready auto aim in Halo. It's just so small that few people notice it. I suggested the turning up the auto aim at close range only to combat the recoil. Auto aim is really a stupid idea. But then again so is recoil.

The auto-aim wasn't a true auto-aim.... It's called an aimming assistant (as bungie states)... It never really does aim for you, it just helps you out (supposely)

But recoil is not stupid... It makes the sniper rifle more skilled based in Halo 2... This way you won't hear every wanna be claim they're the best snipers ever, with sniper rifles that are a joke to use...

recoil makes sense though, it makes u become more patient and skilled, as any gun u would actually shoot in reality, although this is a game

The MC is so strong though that he'd be able to hold the gun so steady that you shouldn't notice a recoil.

lol true i read fall of reach and it says how powerful the mjolnir armor, when the other tests were run with the armor b4 master chief, they broke their arms just moving the armor while they were in it because they were in it

The sniper rifle is really cool. Remember, Recoil is really only weapon specific, not body specific. MC has MJOLNIR Armour, it weighs 500lbs and is rock steady.

Exactly. So the recoil doesn't make sense.

This is a game, and gameplay is far more important then following with the storyline of the books...

but the MJOLNIR armor mentioned in book set up preparation for the game, although it was a prequel, the fall of reach that is

I just realized if you use head shots then recoil doesn't matter anyway.

Eventually, like with halo pc, you'll get used to all the differences with guns and stuff. Like lag for instance, when your not the server, depending on your ping, you need to REALLY lead your target with the sniper rifle. Heck, even with guns like the shotgun. But if there is a recoil thing that makes your reticle move or whatever, thats not so bad. As long as when im jumping or sidestepping me crosshair isent going from like here + to here +. And I dont mean like when im moving and my crosshair moves with me, I mean if it goes away from the center of the screen. That would be so bad I might consider using the ES instead of being a sniper.

gameplay is still more important, at least for multiplayer....

I'd also like it that if you move to quickly you come out of the zoomed state, like you do in Return to Castle Wolfenstein. (only for the sniper rifle mind you)

Often I'll see people playing Halo and simply taking the SR and pumping out as many shots as possible. Far too often, those shots aren't godly one-hit kills to take out 3 people in a moving, weaving warthog, but just one person. Personally, the mere thought of taking the SR and trying to plant those shots through the torso area (when a "heart" shot doesn't even exist) bothers me. Even if I'm about to get creamed, I'd rather use the SR to try for a headshot. It takes more skill, and I just feel more proud of using the first and only shot to take out somebody in a moving vehicle (when I happen to actually accomplish such a shot). Now I'm only above-average at best (partly because I'm not that good in the first place, partly because I generally go for the SR and always try for headshots, upping the difficulty for me), but I'm more than glad that recoil is being incorporated into the SR. It means fewer people just blasting away at anything without even aiming, and more people dropping from that perfect shot when they were either nearly too far away to even see on screen or moving really fast. But there's a good possibility that I'm crazy, heh. Actually, it's almost certainly true: the sniper contrail bothers me not because it makes it easier to spot you (which I have no problem with), but because it looks really ugly; and the SR's bullet apparently moving slower then almost every other projectile in Halo PC (well, that or taking 1/4 of a second for it to respond to the trigger...). But of course neither of those are real issues. So I shouldn't complain.

I think it's a good idea. I'm not usually a sniper, never enjoyed it much, but it would make it more balanced. Even for someone like me who only uses sniper if forced to (I always use the pistol over the sniper), I have gotten extremely good with it because it takes little skill. I know some people are extremely good with it, like 4 people with one shot, but I find that I'm much better than most with little practice. I would like to see the sniper take more skill so that I can have one sniper on my team that's skilled (my clan team) and not have to worry about the other team having snipers too much.

I think the recoil is a good idea, I'm more concerned about other dhanges to the rifle. As a sniper, if you are skilled (which you should become if you're to use such a situation specific weapon) you should learn to take the headshot, pace yourself and take down your target. Even with recoil you can do this well, recoil just means that if you happen to miss, it will take longer to link up your headshot again.

I'm a little worried about no trail from the bullet. All you would know that it was a sniper round would be if the sniper were close enough that you heard it. On large maps however, this will rarely be the case. So, if you're in danger of being sniped and the sniper misses, you dont even know you're being shot at, until they finally tag you. Also, if you're running and a sniper hits you but doesnt kill you, yes they have to reaim because of the recoil, but you have no idea where it came from so you cant hide or find cover effectively, giving the sniper more time to line up the target.

the sniper rifle is fine as it is with four rounds and contrails. recoil would also encourage camping (not that it is a bad thing) since people would stay in one spot in order to place their shots properly

and another reason for not having recoil is that the spartans are genetically enhanced and have rock steady aim so how can linda shoot out the banshee pilots if there was recoil?

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

Someone may have said this... but I asked the Mods. In the Alpha test... whenever you shot... it not only forced you to re-aim... but to re-zoom to. The recoil took you out of zoom.

I agree strongly with the recoil with the sniper rifle, but not with knocking you out of zoom. That would get very annoying.

and the 4 round clip, could u fit 10 finned bullets in one giant clip and carry it around? hmmm

exactly! those bullets are about 18.2 mm I believe...theres no way you could carry more than 4

one other thing...if an 18.2 mm bullet hits you, shouldnt you at least limp, if not, die in one shot! those are bigger than the military .50 cal rifles! Even though spartans are super strong...they shouldnt be THAT strong!

I trust that if bungie put recoil in then its for a good reason. Though right at this point it sounds pretty silly, it seems that the new MJOLNIR armour is rubbish compared to the old one, cant handle recoil. Just dont understand how a weapon could change for the worse over time..

Perhaps the rumours of a ten round sniper rifle with recoil is going to be the covenant sniper rifle. And the four round recoil-free human sniper rifle will stay basically the same. I hope.

The rounds are 14.5mm. And a 50 cal is 12.7mm. So... there's just a little comparison.

recoil is -blam!-, mc isn't some pansy-ass human with feeble arms, he's a genetically enhanced super soldier, he should be able to hold a gun straight
