The Covenant may have the upper hand as far as we know it but one thing still remains in my mind? If we capture a prophet, will we learn about the Covenant homeworld? The planet Reach was close to Earth. Reach was an interstellar naval yard for building colony ships for civilians and warships for the UNSC's armed forces. Reach was a hub of scientific and military activity. But what about the Covenant homeworld? The prophets have almost nothing to do with the military unless other planetary invasions are in session, the elites have the last say when it comes to military, in some cases, elites can outrank the prophets. There is even proof that the prophets can speak english, it is so in First Strike. In Halo 2 my theory is that: The key to putting the Covenant on some kind of deffensive, even with the smaller forces we have, lies in the prophets. They probably know more than any of the other castes in the race. Any thoughts/comments?

I have large-text-block-ophobia.

I read it and would respond, except I haven't read the books yet. I'm buying them next time I go up to Borders, though. If they have them. The sci-fi section of my Borders isn't all too good.

When is the new one coming out? I've heard September, but it seems strange that they would release the book before the game.

No I mean the one that covers the Halo 2 story. I've heard rumors that it's coming out in September.

XBL: FTG Spartan
But you were dead a thousand times. Hopeless encounters successfully won. A man long dead, grafted to machines your builders did not understand. You follow the path, fitting in to an infinite pattern.
Yours to manipulate, to destroy and rebuild.
Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.
I know who you are.
You are Destiny.

I agree, but how would we get to the Prophets. I remember reading that they're extremely well guarded.

yes it would take alot to get to the prophets, and if they are in the temples, the brutes would be guarding them, somethin tells me halo2 is gonna be alot harder then we think lol

its gonna have to divert all of our attention, all it takes is for 1 prophet to learn where earth is, then all our attention should be averted toward the Covenant council, beacause the Covenant are drawing awful close

in ythe fall of reach they mentioned that they did indeed capture a prohet but the ship he was on was destroyed, so this would take a large scale operation

The Prophet was captured on board the truth and reconciliation by Silva in the flood, not fall of reach or first strike. It was also mentioned they could speak english (well it was hinted) in the same book.
The Covenant already know where Earth is in First Strike

so it all leads to a last attempt to get them away, although thyey knwo where it is. too bad Captain Keyes had to die, lol his tactics with the Iroqois were pretty kick ass, maybe he could perform another "Keyes Loop" and make the covenant vessels fire on themselves using their own plasma cannons, which can track btw.

That was the Flood dumbass. Also I have yet to see any proof that they indeed speak English. Maybe our little translators that are implanted inside every UNSC soldier(hence why we hear the Grunts speak English) can fix it up for us.

Also your idea on the Elites having the last say? I truly doubt that. The Prophets out rank the Elites, simple as that. They are looked upon with reverence by all Covenant, including Elites.

I also doubt the Covenant would go on any form of a defensive. They are attack attack attack. That is all they do, and they have the overwhelming numbers to do it.

As for the rest of the theory. You need to get a bunch of facts straight in your Halo knowledge before you can assume any of this. I recommend reading the Fallof Reach and First Strike some more. It'll help you a bunch in anymore of your theories.

Also stop bumping your own threads. It is against the rules.

Hikaru, I hate to tell a knowledgeable Halo veteran like yourself that you are, in some cases, wrong. but the truth is that you are. Allow me to elabourate.

Yes a Prophet was captured in the Flood but he must have spoken English and here's why. This was first contact with a Prophet, no translation attempts or software would be available for the marines to convert his speech. It mentions that he told them he was a Prophet and an important member of the Covenant. pg 329. Welsley, the A.I, is a dumb A.I and therefore unable to translate the Prophet. Therefore the only logical conclusion is that he can speak English. This isn't so farfetched as the Covenant have known of us for some time, even before the war and thus the Prophets most likely will have learnt our language.

Elites can SOMETIMES outrank a Prophet but only the highest ranking officers and only then the minor Prophets or Prophets of a lesser nature. in the flood pg 5 "Though only a minor Prophet, he still outranked 'Fulsumee, as his bearing made clear." Why would this be mentioned unless Elites can, though extremely rarely, outrank low class Prophets? But I think your right about Prophets having a last say on things when its a matter of importance.

The Covenant would be defensive if they had to, but like you said they have superior numbers so why would they, but it is a possibility when in a dire situation perhaps, they can change tactics.

Also even if we did capture a Prophet, they are not the key to victory in my opinion as the Covenant are relentless and want us extinct.

It is possible for the covenant to be on the defensive side I mean if the covenant would make a fatal military tactic that would somehow help the human race... Anther way is that the humans have these in hand; first they need really good military knowledge and the officers to know this, you need courage and determination to succeed... Also the humans are fighting on their own ground which gives them a little advantage...

If you continue to fight you can prevail if you stop fighting you will fail...

If your will to win is great and you are determined to win you will do fine... Halo 2 might be hard but still you need a challenge because Halo dosen't have one anymore, its too easy, so having brutes protecting the prophets will hopefully be a challenge but we'll see...
