Heyyo,

By cleanboot I'm guessing you mean reformatting your hd and reinstalling windows from scratch and the game.. if so? Hells yes. I usually reformatt windows n' stuff 2-3 times a year.

No matter how good you are at managing your HD n' stuff, eachtime you boot your computer, each time you start up a program, heck, each time you do anything it fragments your HD bit by bit. Defragging only prolongs its life, but defragmenting ain't perfect, and usually doesn't restore your computer's previous operating state/speeds. It'll give some back, but not miracles.

Especially true no with spyware. Spyware just eats your computer alive these days. I can't believe that it's legal for them to do this crap.. or else I would've sued that gain corporation for every penny they have for Evasion of Privacy.

To me, a clean boot is a boot that only loads windows, not any other programs. That is why it loads faster. The only disadvantage is if you need another program to run from startup.

The Mard do you have a second HD? Doesn't reformatting erase your entire system? My computer would have to slow to crawl for me to even consider doing that. And I still would probably buy another hd first just to keep all my precious stored info.

No, in fact it doesn't necessarily erase an entire hard drive. It only erases partitions that you choose it to.

why would you have multiple partitions on your harddrive? they do nothing but waste space...

Partitons are really only needed for large hd 120 GB or so. You keep most of your saved information on a seperate partitions from your main hd so the main part can be used primarily by the processor for extra memory. I know HP likes to partition their hd so they can basically keep all the reboot info on the hd itself in its own partition. Now this is a waste of space when you can just provide this info on a disk. But back to my point, if your hd is not partitioned reformatting is not a viable option. At least not for me.

Yes, you definately need an external hd/dvd burner or something to back up stuff.

On my old computer, I had a huge 250GB hard drive. The first partition was small, only for system, the next was programs, and then the next media. I noticed no difference between having and not having partitions as far as speed. However, on my 74gb raptor system, no partitions, everything shares it :)

how did u have a 250 GB HD, dosent the Win. XP limit it to only 137 GB?
and u should really have a partition for just games, then for all other applications.
It dosent fragment files as easily, plus it cuts down on file sizes

Type A into a Notepad document and then check to see how big it is.
For the letter A, it took up 4,096 bytes, The Letter A took up 4 KB!

If you partition it will keep your Hard Drives cluster sizes down to a low
so from 4 KB for the letter A, it can be cut in Half, same with your games and such, but it wont be cut in half, youll save about 2 MB's of space, but that really is ALOT in the long run.

But if you have a 250 GB HD and partition it as C:, D:, and E: or F: or even up to Z: (a Z drive... :D)

It CAN save SOME space.

Yes to the windows thing, hence why it's it two larger partitions and a small system one. When I made it one huge drive it showed as 137 exactly. I was like...hells no I have 250!

Cleaning the hd does help. Only thing is that you have to reinstall everything...which can take up to 6 hours.

By the by, what is a partition? Ive heard of it, but never really found out...
