I was just wondering if we were ever going to get the posts counters back? Why you may ask....this is why. I think its a great way to let people know whos a true forum goer. This way if someone asks a question...then like you should you answer it...that person can tell if you really know what your talking about. And for the excuse that people will just keep making posts to get a prize...make it loud and clear that there is no prize!

It won't tell you who's a true forum 'goer'. Not with people spamming out threads. As far as I understand, the counters were removed specifically to discourage certain kinds of spam (trying to get your count up, bumping, reposts etc...) If they were there it would just be a temptation. And this seems to put everyone who doesn't have a word stamped on their Avatar on equal footing.

I disagree. Post counters tend to encourage spamming so people will get a high post count. Although I use some fourms that have a "rating" sytem along with the counter. goes from -5 to 5. so you can see if that person is really a nice poster who knows what he is talking about, or a typical spammer. the only problem is you need quite a fair ammount of mods to rate every single person using the fourms

That'd be a bad idea. Or a good one. We'd need more mods to rate the people. Then we'd have more mods than we'd need. But it forces people to be good. But then we have spammers who are proud of what they do:spam. The low mark wouldn't debase them, but actually make them be prouder of what they do. So it's not such a good idea.

Sorry but chances are it would tell you who is a true spammer and not a forum goer.

Well, HBO has post counters in their user's profiles. Maybe that could work.

No, I don't like post counters all that much either- I'm just throwing out some ideas.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

There are post counts at the RvB forum. People don't care that much about them. Hell, I am *Checks* 12th in posts. That doesn't mean anything. If you want to see if someone knows what they are talking about, you're best assumption here is to check joined date Of course someone could have joined 2 years ago and never come on or whatever. Just wait for other replies to your thread. If you don;t get any, he was right so there was no need to say anything else. If you get more correcting him, he is wrong.

The problem with comparing these forums to others, is the amount of traffic they recieve. While I'm sure HBO and RVB have a ton of people coming and going (I'm one of them) it simply just doesn't even come close to the amount of traffic that comes through here now. I think the best option is just to leave the counters gone, at least until there's a solid way for the mods to take care of spam.

Hmm... come to think of it how many B.net members are there? The RvB forums says there are 37695 registered users on the forum. Thats a lot of people.

There are at least 15,000 I would guess more than 25,000 users here. But that doesn't take into account the extra accounts used by spammers and dead accounts either.
