I guess you will have to do something UNTHINKABLE....wait till the game is out. Good chance you'll figure out why the flood are in Halo 2 when you fight them.

The Flood are not 100% proven to be in Halo 2 BUT it was mentioned that the covenant have a history with the flood and there might be something to do with that and also that there is another Halo ring in Halo 2 and the rings we're built to study and contain the Flood so there is a very good chance they will return

The Covenant and humans both know of the Flood on the Halos. The fleeing Covenant ships and the Pelican of Marines w/ MC witnessed it so they can tell the others. Who would be that stupid to trespass into locked chambers on the Halos again? The most common theory is that the Flood stowed aboard MC's Longsword or a Covenant vessel. Perhaps they hijacked a dropship before Halo was destroyed?

i dont think there will be flood in halo 2, despite the FACT that they still exist, 343 "sparky" says that the ring has a blast radius of wiping out sentient life in 25000 light years and that WHEN INITIATED WITH THE OTHER RINGS they will effectively starve the flood of food for the entire galaxy, so as long as humans nor covenant find another ring, idiotically release more flood, get theri ship hijacked and the flood sumhow find a way to fly the thing (they have had over 100,000 years to think about it) then i really doubt they will come back, but i DO think that the monitor and perhaps his sents will return

Not possible. The only ships to escape Halo that were on the surface were a Longsword fighter and a Pelican. Both of which exploded. Plus I am pretty sure it won't be the Covenant or UNSC that releases the Flood, but rather 343 Guilty Spark.

And eys, they were confirmed, as stated by Jason Jones (Halo 1 and 2 lead) in two seperate interviews.
