Subject: Post-Spam Carnage Report

bah

As some of you may know, and as many of you have learned through the grape vine, there was a spam attack on the Flood again, about an hour and a half before this post was made. I like the way this one was handled. I think a mod got cheesed off and when on a deleting-spree, as there is almost no evidence that it ever occured. I personally like this approach because it leaves the troll feeling like all they accomplished was flushed down the drain. But that's not why I brought this up.

There's no closure for me. I know a mod came on and deleted stuff. At least, I think it was a mod because the spam continued for a few minutes instead of just stopping altogether then disappearing. This is my point, I'd love to see some sort of Post-Spam Carnage Report. Nothing fancy, just a post reporting what happened and who took care of it. I'd like to know who I have to thnk for coming on. A typical report could look like this:PSCR: There was a spamming spree in (insert forum(s) here)starting at (insert time) and ending at (insert time). (insert number) threads were deleted by (insert mod here).I don't know, it's basically for my own amusement. It would be nice to know who did what, and it would keep people better informed of what happened when they were gone. This would lead to a greater caring of the forums by everyone, and that would lead to a harsher environment to spam in (an environment where people alert mods quickly and don't respond).

The spam-nerds would get a rise even out of a report as minor as the one you suggest. I personally think it's unwise to acknowledge it as little as such. Even with something as minor as this thread.

Ignoring it altogether will solve it.

bah

Whoa whoa whoa! Ignoring something does squat. Problems must be adressed. They know they spammed, they "know" it "angered" the mods because their posts are deleted or locked. Making a report like mine would actually anger the trolls. Imagine seeing a report form their perspective. All they see is praise for the mod who did it, everyone saying thank you and what-not. Maybe I'm giving their intelligence too much credit. Hey, the report could bee general news at the mod's chapter. Anyone could see it, keep it a secret. Then the trolls won't know about it because it won't be here. I just want to know who to thank. Not actually thank, but in my head.

When spamming occurs, ask any Moderator about whom had stopped it.. after it's been stopped. It you don't see spamming occur, then the Moderators are doing their job well and speedy. ;]

Unfortunately, it happened in New Mombosa right after the Flood. Again and it deleted almost every entry after the first page.

But back to your original idea. It would be nice to have, but I'm not sure it's relevant unless it includes what posts after/before the spam may be affected? Just a thought.

bah

So it turns out that the New Mambosa forum has had four hours of spam going. So much for my timely response theory. The new mods need powers NOW!

Rip I just got this from one of the spammers:

Subject: we won...

look at it we stopped new mombasa hahahaha we reached our goal we won...hahaha you're cool....never flamed me.... so I leave a bit of my imaginary empire to you

And here is my reply:

Yes you did crash Mombosa? But for what reason? To entertain yourself? To find out if Bungie's software could handle a beating? To piss people off?
I am not flaming you, you're a good guy and I don't understand why, exactly, you're doing this. So, in essence, I'm trying to understand why you want to do this, and what you get out of it. If you could help me understand, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Abolition.

I am hoping to coax a 'morality' side out of him and find out exactly why he is doing this since he thinks I am a friend and a loyal confidant. Hopefully, I can find out and we can work with what we know to stop it immediately.

EDIT: DeathPotato's response:

Your secret plot isn't exactly secret. Although.. as unintelligent as spam-nerds are, they can read.

Actually this might be a good idea because it would make it seem that we are having fun when they spam, and there for it would not be cool any more to do it. Or on the other hand it could promote it. Any ways it seems like a good way to be amused, and it should also have like the people involved, those banned, and those that helped. Heh, Rip Saw:1 flame ,5 assists.

Was not a secret 'plot' he knew what I was doing, in fact, I blatantly TOLD HIM. Honesty is better than deception :).

bah

Not so much a flame, as a "Look at yourself you retard." I'm trying to stayy off the flaming entirely, as yuo can see, I "actively ignored" three posts in the Flood by posting in them with a good topic and ignoring the spammer. I used to think I could maybe get through to them with a slap in the face look at yourself post, but that was assuming the person was somewhat intelligent.
