NERD!

Well.....I can't really talk. I take a liking to AMD, though who did it FIRST.

Finally they have come. The 64-bit revolution is nigh. It's sort of expensive for what you get compared to AMD, though.

o and also, im still wondering if they will be better, i mean, sure it'll be damn powerfull, but doesnt amd have all sorts of crap, like an intergrated memory control and that thing that they paid IBM like a couple of millon to help them with.......... i think it was SOI(silicon on insulator).
o and one other thing, when is the windows 64 bit coming out, cos i got linux and xp pro on my hard disk,(diferent partitions).

ok... to address some of the ignorance in here...

that is NOT a dual core p4

it is HYPERTHREADING which is able to run 2 threads at once, like being able to use both your left and right hands at once. not as good as 2 people using one hand each

if you look at the pic of the back of the box you will notice that there is ONE metal square, which is the cover over the SINGLE core....

also, there ARE dual G5s

DUH

most of the powermac g5s are dual... i hate them

also, did you p4 people notice that p4s run ridiculously hot? i mean my athlon that is oc'd 300 mhz runs at a peak of 128 farenheit, and thats after 8 hours of halo

ive seen a p4 running at the stock clock speed IDLE at 140....that would warm your room up nicely

Yeah, Intel's produce unheard of amounts of heat. Why do you think overclockers like AMD so much? It's because they produce less heat for the performance you get - that and the price ;)

Meh, like I said they are 64 bit, but not dual cores...

Silly Intel, 64-bit is for AMD.

i justr want it, cos i t should in theory be cooler and and have a smaller power consumtuion whill still giving all the proccessing power. would this be good to ovcerclock then right?

Heyyo,

Hmm, OC'ing inna laptop? that's not a good idea dude... bad enough there's not a huge heatsink/fan to go on the cpu, but the space confindment trapping the heat? that's suicide for your laptop dude. You'd fry it. Plus, a 3200+ doesn't need to be OC'd. That's a plenty strong cpu. Mine's just an AMD Athlonxp 3000+ and I probably won't OC it at all. I'm pleased with the preformance I get from it. :)

So far? for 64bit? get a 64bit linux distribution. You don't need to delete your windows HD partitions, just have some free space for good ol' FREE Linux. The day Linux overthrows Windows shall be a good day. Next time I do a full cpu buy again? If cedega becomes efficient enough? I might not even have a windows os on my comp. :)

sorry for the confusion about the dual core thing, i thought those were dual cores. the dual cores will come out in September for Intel. And for AMD their coming out with theirs in June, beating Intel out for the second time. Heero Yuy you are wrong about the 2 cases for each of the cores. Intel plans for one cpu to house 2 cores that means 1 metal thing with 2 cores stuck inside it. AMD is just going to stick to cores back to back and call it a day.

well i never studied it, but its still not dual core ;)

and my good ol' amd runs cool oc'd 300 mhz! (i think i said that already)

AMD Athlon 64s and the Intel 6xx line of processors are the only desktop processors that support 64 bit instructions. (Intel has some pseudo-64 bit server procs too)

It allows you to say you have a 64bit processor that operates at 32bit unless you have 64bit windows version and a program coded for 64bit. So for the most part it's a name thing.

Heyyo,

Hmm, Dead_Meat, he means the cpu. Yes, to run windows xp64bit you need a 64bit cpu. If you have a 32bit just stick with norm 32bit distributions of windows. 64bit is definately recommended for a lot better preformance. The Athlon64 series are great cpu's even in 32bit mode. They run like 32bit + 8bits on the side. So they get a little extra boost. :)

Games are already starting to come out in 64bit versions. I know There's a 64bit version of Far Cry. That would run sweet I bet..

ok, well the mobile processors not only fit into laptop mobos but all sockets, so im gona use it for another pc. my pc has a amd64 3200 (754) but its a clawhammer and so doesn't overclock aswell as i would have liked it to, i mean i have heard that the smaller l2 cache can go further, but i havn't tried it yet, if only i was 16, then i could get a job...... and leave school :D

also mard will the 64 bit far cry b released in the uk? and if so how long till?
also hers a lbnk to a great site, full of wonderfully crap that ull never remember.
its wher i get some knowlegde of the latest bits and bobs.

Yes I Agree. lol :)

I've Got An Alienware Aurora 5500 w/AMD 3500 processor the only thing I might have a problem with is.well Nothing really..lol

AMD will have the edge most likely. The Made AMD's back in what? 0'1 0'2? can't remember. Intel is just starting to make 64 bit's. AMD will come back with something I bet you. lol Oh well.
