After Halo 1, i hadn't even heard of the books at that time, I wrote a report for my 9th grade F-CAT writes. IN case you didn't know what F-CAT is, it is a test in Florida (Florida Comprehension Assesment Test) and is totally unnecessary.
The Beginning of the End
Frost set upon the Longsword's port, but then slowly dissappeared as the heated class ate steadily away at it. Master Chief sat uncomfortably in his too small chair. Somewhere inside his head, a voice that sounded calm and sweet said,"...Only dust and echoes." It was Cortana, an A.I. he had recieved aboard the Pillar of Autumn. Master Chief didn't like this at all. He knew there would be no way home unless he could somehow go into the second space. If not his oxygen regenerator in his ship would eventually give out, due to lack of fuel. Even with his superior armor and his excellent combat skills, he was helpless in space.
So the chief did all that he could do, stare out the window. He soon realized the only way he could get out of this a live was to find another ship that supported a way to get into the second space. Each moment ticked away as if someone had grabbed it right off of Master Chief's visor's standard clock. He spotted a dark shadow as one of the debris shifted. It was an intact Covenant dropship. It was larger than than the origanal dropship, but it was relatively the same thing.
After a moment to think about it, Master Chief pushed some controls, and the Longsword fighter began to accelerate towards the newly found dropship. When he reached the dropship he noticed dead covenant sitting in the seats on the dropship's perimeter. Good, something that i don't have to do Master Chief thought to himself. Master Chief stood up and began to look around the Longsword for something he could effectively use to get into the dropship, but sill be able to get back onto the Longsword if he found out that the dropship was usless.
Master Chief opened a locker and began to shift through its contents: a med. kit, some ammo for a MA5B assault rifle, and a long, reinforced steel cable. He picked up the ammo, and took the cable over to the hatch. Master Chief remembered how he just excaped the flood by seconds, not only that but, closed it before any had a chance to board...or so he thought.
Unannounced to the Chief or Cortana, a flood form had gotten inside the landing gear before the longsword's take off, and didn't want to make itself known until this sentinent life form brought it to where there would be more food. Becuase this flood form had gotten smart. It knew one sentinent being meant more, and the more there was, the more food there would be for its brotherine.
Master chief tied the cable to the hatch's entrance, then opened the Hatch. Cortana warned master chief of the decompression so he held on to the nearest gaurd rail. As soon as the hatch was opening, Master Chief could hear a Sonic boom, even though he had shut off his external microphones, which he used to hear ones around him. Master Chief's feet gave out from under him and he felt his hand slipping, but compensated the force by holding on tighter than he ever had in his life. When that was all done, he stepped to the entrance of the Longsword and jumped toward the dropship. He did so with great acrobatic skills, even when being out in space. He positioned him self so he could catch the nearest breach the dropship's hull. Master Chief was dead on. He pulled himself into a tight compartment, filled with display screens, all of which were flashing red with illegible covenant "letters".
Although they didn't seem any significance to Master Chief, they would have been if he were a covenant elite, because what was said on the screen was, "all personnal report back to our home world, immediatley. If you have forgotten our coordinates, which is punishable by our superior courts, press yes now."
Master chief searched the intereior for anything that could get him into the second space, which he had traveled in with Captain Keyes and the other crew aboard the Pillar of Autumn. After a strenous search Master Chief found what he was looking for. It was a generator capable of sending a ship into the second space. Master Chief cut all the wires which were connected to it and attatched it to his back.
When he was safely back in the Longsword, he found hookups for the generator. Of course, he had to modify the connections to the generator, but he would have that done in a few moments.
After connnecting the generator, he took Cortana's chip out of his head and placed it inside the console to the left of the chair which he had occupied just a few hours before.
Cortana's figure sat staring at Master Chief, with her arms crossed. Her figure showed purple and blue, and figures scrolled along her body, too fast for Master Chief to see.
'
"Cortana, put in coordinates for Earth. We have to get back and warn the people of Earth of this new enemy, hte flood." Master Chief said in his low pitched voice.
"I am well aware of this, and i have already put in the coordinates. So, keep your pants on, for both out sakes." Cortana replied in her usual sarcastic voice, in which Master Chief had grown accustomed to.
After she answered, a portal just big enough for the longsword to squeeze through opened. ANd before Master Chief could fall asleep, from the exhaustion of halo, they were gone.
So what do you think?
To me it sounded a little like First Strike, but it didn't have the Pelican or the Covenant Flagship in it. To be honest I would have put in a covenant flagship in my story, had i read first strike prior to writing this.
