I am looking to buy a new video card. Currently, I have a VisionTek Xstasy 9200 SE at 128mb. Its decent, but theres alot of cards out there much better than it.

I was browsing at ZipZoomFly.com and looked at their video cards. I'm thinking of getting the Chaintech A-FX60 GeForce FX5600 XT AGP 8X 256MB DDR. From someone who knows about video cards, would this be a good or bad selection?

Ditto...great card great price. You probably won't even notice a perfomance increase with the 5600 XT, it's not a very good card. If you want to stick with Nvidia, look at the 5900 Ultra series or higher, but it's hard to beat the 9800 pro at that price.

I really dont have that much money to spend on a video card. The most I'm looking to spend is $140 TOPS.

Plus, I've heard that ATI cards don't work well with AMD computers...true or untrue?

Trust me the 5600 will be a waste of your money, since you already have a 5200. There really isn't much differendce is performance between those card and 256mb isn't needed. Anything else that you get for the $140 price range won't get much of a performance increase. You might be able to pick up a used 9700 pro or GF 5900 (non-ultra) for that or less, which would be decent, but otherwise stick with what you have until you can afford better.

No truth to that rumor, just make sure you have your drivers up to date.

I have(kind of) a Radeon 9200 PCI card.

I saw a Radeon 9600 SE for $124 and a 9600 XT for $160. If I went for a 9800, I'd HAVE to upgrade my power supply (since mine is 250w and the required is 300w), and I wouldn't know which one would work with my comp or not.

Is the Radeon 9800 pro 256 meg ram the best video card on the maket?
If not what is the best? Price isn't an issue.

ATI 9800XT is the best right now. GF 5950 Ultra is 2nd.

I wish...

If I do get a video card, I'm probably going to get the Celestica Gold Edition Radeon 9600 XT 128mb. I noticed variation in the prices on other brand's 9600 XT. The Celestica is $156, but the Asus one is $186...is this caused by a difference in performance of the two or not?

Ok here is the deal. The best video card on the market for about 2 more weeks is the ATI Radeon 9800XT w/256 mb ram. However, the Nvidia 6800 ultra video card was just released, but it is outa your price range (the 6800 is 100% faster in Halo with everything on at crazy resolutions and this is with a beta driver so it can only get better). One of the best screamin deals in existance is the Sapphire Radeon 9600 w/ 256. It is availible for $225 canadian (i think about $160 american, im to lazy to check it out). Anyways, the difference between the Celestica and the Asus is that they both use the ATI Radeon 9600 xt gpu, but everything else might be different, from the clocked speed of said GPU to the quality of the ram or quality of the board the gpu is on. Personally, i like how easy radeon cards are to use as well as they are canadian (EXCUSE ME FOR BEING BIASED). right now i have a gigabyte 9200se card w/ 128 and im thinkin of upgrading. The 9600 is one of the best cards for yo money. I will miss being able to see invisible people if i get a newer graphics card though..... :)

That is BS. Here are my specs

AMD Athlon64 FX 51
K8T Master1
Radeon 9800XT 256 MB
120 GB

I love my machine. There has never been any problems with my ATI/AMD combo. Your performance depends on a combination of things besides just your graphics card and your processor. Right now Id even say ATI is better than NVIDIA. (That is until NVIDIA's next cards hits soon). My best friend has almost the same computer as me except he went for the top NVIDIA card. After playing the same games on his and my computer he is almost about to fork out the extra dough just to have the ATI card.

I know the new nVidia cards will be awesome. However, I was searching on ZipZoomFly and saw the "PNY Quadro". I didn't look at the specs, but these cards were going for anywhere from $500-$1,500! I know its way outta my range of money, but these cards HAVE to be AMAZING for that kind of money.

I'm prolly goin with the Celesitca 9600XT. You say all the cards use the 9600XT GPU right? So, except for clock/engine speeds, they're basically the same? I wanna spend as little as possible...lol, I don't have a job at the moment.

Prolly not, I get spotted all the time when I go Active Camo. And I mean ALL the time, no matter who it is usually. Active Camo doesn't make u invisible, but it makes u hard to see.

The major difference with the ASUS 9600XT (besides the board) is that it has a Video-In port for video capture.

I mean : WTF!!!!!!
That sure is unfair, they should have coded that otherwise. I cant see someone invinsible unless he is at less than 10 feet from me.

Yah, see the 9200se gpu has a really wierd thingy goin on with it. I think it is partially cause i turned SPECULAR off under the graphics settings in Halo. What happens is the invisibility of everybody looks greyish whitish and flashes around alot. SO when they walk up to u thinking they are oin to nail u with rocket/melee/plasma/ u nail em with shotgun or nade. I love telling them how sneaky they arent.

I had that same exact problem when I had the demo version. I went to ATI.com and downloaded the new Catalyst driver and I haven't had the problem once.

What do u mean by "find the 9800"?

I've heard bad things about Chaintech products. Don't get them because they are unreasonably cheap, they have bugs and spontaneous breakdowns.
