I know my nickname is absolutely stupid. Consider it a sin of my youth...

Short question:

Is there a way running Halo CE in 1680x1050?
The game is quite stretched on my widescreen, because there aren't such high resolutions available...Thanks a lot ;-)

No I don't think Halo CE supports widescreen definitions
1. It was released in like 2003 and I don't think any (or not alot) widescreen monitors were out at the time.
2. It would make the graphics look even crappier

Thanks for the update Roger.
I'm one of those crazy ppl who still play this game more or less every day - just because its balanced next to perfection. The only FPS that ive played that gets close is Quake 1. - I'm allready anticipating the day when they release an updated version of Halo 1 - some new maps, some updated graphics but the same physics and balance.

Anyway i have to put forward something that could maybe be easily fixed whilst your attention is awakened.
Could you please update the ability to lock fps - aka instead of only 30 you would be able to lock it to 60, 90 and 120 without changing it manually for the Friday update?

Try it like this (replace with the halo ce path)

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe" -vidmode 1680,1050
or
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe" -vidmode 1680,1050 -window

It may work if your monitor supports it.

I have a 22 inch monitor and tried it once because thats the resolution my monitor recommends. However, when I put it in it cut off the bottom of the screen making me type like a retard in the chats. I usually keep it at 1440 x 900 so that I can type normally and see everything around me better.

I wish I could get a higher refresh rate though since it seems to cut down how random lead is but thats more of my monitor only being able to handle 60mhz and having graphic flashes while playing. >.<

I'll edit and see if it works for mine (Samsung 21.6" SyncMaster 216BW for anyone w/ the same/similar monitor). I'm guessing it won't show up in your options menu either way.
Edit: Works excellently; thanks a million sawnose!
Anyways, awesome. I admit I still play Halo 3 and CoD4 pretty frequently, but I'm still loyal.

Wow thanks a lot for this, I know it's not ya'lls job to support this anymore and it means a bunch to us that just can't seem to find a game to replace Halo.

Is there going to be an update patch for mac users?

EDIT: this is for Halo UB (universal binary)

Sawnose, I know that Halo is now more or less unsupported. However, one thing that would really be a great final gift to us would perhaps be to merge Halo CE and the retail Halo together.
In this way, Halo CE will have a greater player count, and modded maps, for example, would not be available for cheating.

Why don't you guys also try to fix the aimbot issue so that it does not rise again, and perhaps improve leading further. Hardly anybody uses dial up anymore, and an upgrade in netcode would be good.

As I said, I know Halo PC is no longer supported, but I feel it to be so...odd. The reason why, is because with some minor fixes, the game could be big again. It could continue to earn microsoft AND bungie quite alot of revenue.

Anyway, thank you for this patch. And I hope that this isn't necessarily the last time we get an update.

Thanks Sawnose!!! You are the best.
We know it's an old game but there is really nothing like it out there.

Once again THANK YOU for all the time you spent on this.

As far as aimbots go,,, play Heavy Weapons, you can't aimbot a rocket.

And boys and girls, as I get the story Bungee and Microsoft had nothing to do with this. SAWNOSE DID THIS FOR US ON HIS OWN so don't bust his eggs about other patches and game upgrades. Just say thanks.

Subject: no backward compatibility?? that's going to be trouble...

Thanks for the patch, but the lack of backward compatibility is really going to cause a lot of trouble.

There are a lot of Halo servers that will be slow to update and will be completely unavailable to anyone who accepts the client auto-update tomorrow. The community will be split in two!

Also, does this mean Mac users will be out of luck (no more Halo!) unless / until there is a compatible Mac patch? When might that happen??

Less serious, but this also creates a temporary chicken or egg problem with patch installs between users and servers. If you patch your server ahead of time (like today), hardly any users will be able to join it. So you really can only patch AFTER the auto-update is released, and you'd better do it pronto or soon you'll have very few users (only Mac users?) able to play on your 1.07 server.

I simply fail to see why it was necessary to add this complication... leave the backward compatibility in place. Hosts will update their servers when they get a chance... why artificially force the lack of backward compatibility and create the needless chaos that is going to start on Friday when loads of servers will become unavailable for play?

  • 08.07.2008 4:52 PM PDT

Thus I refute thee

yeah, so i downloaded the ptches, and now its rejecting me from every game nw because my client is newer than the others, how do i delete the patches, sorry...new to the patches..

  • 08.07.2008 5:00 PM PDT

Just throwing this out there.... But a fix for lead? I mean... A lot of people would pick up this game if they knew they didn't have to shoot an inch in front of somebody to kill them... And it would be a relief to all of us vets. Just a thought :).

Problem is, without that limitation, servers *wouldn't* update, and users would keep feeling the pain of the old bugs. This at least forces the issue. Pain for a week or so, then hopefully it's all fixed.

Regarding Macs: I don't want to make promises on behalf of others, but I have reason to believe a Mac patch will be coming, too, in the not-too-distant future.

Hmm... Thats not right.

Great! I just started to play this game again and it still feels very busy after a few years. Thanks Bungie.

If you do what sawnose said to do, just be aware that you won't be able to see what you type until AFTER it has been entered for everyone else to see. Which can result in "losts" of typos "liek, jsut, and teh"

And sawnose, when did bungie.net have an img /img?

If only I could run this game for more than 20 minutes with my 8600 on Vista :( I think that's Nvidia's fault though. Thanks for the fix :D

Long live the MAW.

Sawnose, I salut you!
For years we've (The Maw) been waiting for a patch, and this far exceeds what we wanted.
Thanks much,

I'll bet with some creative editing of the text files in
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\CONTENT
you can fix that.

-img- tag is for admins only.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Halo PC 1.07 isn't auto updating to 1.08. I ran haloupdate.exe and it said "Already up to date". Halo CE updated fine, though.
