it's the fact that you cannot hook up two mice and two keyboards at the same time to two comps and having the comp read them seperately.

wellfor the most part over internet wouldn't work, other than the problem of lagg, there wouldn't be any co-operation other then than the namesake. When i first heard about Splinter Cell Pandora Tommorrow multiplayer i did'nt think stealth multiplayer with goals would work, and i was right...sort of. Cause even with voice comm. some people just didn't get a microphone, and without radar it's just too complicated, so really any form of online co-operation is a doomed failure, it's sort of like the fact that that person's isin't sitting right next to u. You're dissasociated from them, how could u possibly work together on something, supposedly for Splinter Cell 3 they're having campaign co-op, it probaly won't work for PC either, if any Halo comes out for PC, there better not be co-op on that disk.

Hello, SVENco-op? Co-operative mod for Half-Life, over net. And yes, you can plug loads of USB mouse/keyboards into one machine, for example Serious Sam Co-op, which support one machine, LAN and net co-op for up to 4 players.
It'd be possible to do the same for Halo PC, but it didn't happen, for one or more of the following reasons:
1) Not enough time
2) Not enough money
3) Need to give the console version SOMETHING over the PC version, since everything else is better on PC.
4) Multiplayer is good enough not to need co-op. Co-op would have a very limited scope since there's only one way to do the campaign.

What is really funny, is that the Serious Sam games from the bargain bins have split screen enabled on one computer for coop play. Not that they needed to, because the games coop works great over internet and over lan. They went that extra mile because they really cared. I am pretty sure Gearbox dropped the ball on coop, and just didnt care to do the extra work. And the reason this is funny, is you have a full priced Microsoft PC game, completely trounced in an area it should have nailed, due to the fact that the game already had coop implemented to begin with, by a bargain bin game.

P.S. I just went and checked, The Marathon games have network coop. This makes Halo PC's lack of coop, a regression of company standards for completeness of a product.

It may be possible that the Giant Microsoft monster is discouraging PC developers from making coop. Just look at Doom 3, no coop on the PC, but look at it on the Xbox yep, coop on the Xbox, something is wrong and it sure smells very fishy too.

It is very possible that it is being discouraged. This cloak and dagger, buisiness men without a gamers bone in their body looking out for the bottom line while keeping us in the dark crap is going to kill this industry. Do these types even have any passion at all for their product? Makes me wonder why they would stiffle a game from being all it could be, how does that help the suits?

Sorry to go off topic, but, the worst case of just really soulless business men behind the scenes of a game has to be the Star Wars games over the last 5 years or so. Those games developers are kept under extremely strict lock down by the Lucas Arts empire, so that they can make sure that no one Star Wars game is the complete Star wars experience. It would hurt sales of one game to have another game more fully featured apparently.

What sort of brain power was required to come up with that sort of idea? One Lucas Arts game, subtracting sales from another Lucas Arts game? Maybe their brains are still developing, and they managed to get a business degree before they were quite ready to leave the fetal phase of the human experiance, but how exactly is one game, that everyone buys and loves over the course of 5-6 years, less of a money maker, than 4 games that disapear off the radar within weeks, because they only focus on learning how to be a podracer mechanic?

no no no no! It has nothing to do with money and trends of other games and stuff.

The way Halo was designed would only allow two players to play in that mode if their computers were in perfect synchronous. Basically, they would have to be playing their 2-player game on a single computer/xbox. This can be done with an xbox, but our computer screens and desk space are already too small to allow more than one player to a single computer. Even a wired LAN is not fast enough. It just won't work.

Halo 2, on the other hand, is where Bungie got smarter and allowed coop between 2 different xboxes, I believe, but it's only with special edition. That is what I hope they carry over to the PC version.

What in the world are you talking about? Halo 2's co-op is only split screen.

Heyyo,

Ugh, the fault of lack of coop is purely on the developper. In this case? gearbox.

Synchronous? hah! excuses, excuses. Gearbox diddn't want to spend extra time implementing fakeclients like they should've. If they would've, we'd have great coop, and great multiplayer bots. They just got cheap.

Marathon coop pwns. This game's definately top knotch. Remember: Marathon series was BEFORE bungie sold out to m$... Which's exactly why I hope DICE and Ubisoft remain independent. Ubisoft has been desperately fighting off EA as EA wants to buy out Ubisoft.. which would totally blow if they did. EA is also trying to buy out DICE.. that's all capitalist companies know how to do: can't make better games, so they make many games to try and make up for it, and if that fails? they buy out the opposition. with m$ and EA? same deal, they always come 2nd so they suck n' need to buy out the opposition.

Lucasarts is ok. Lego Star Wars comes out in April with 2 player coop. so that's sweet. ;)

Now, Doom 3 HAS COOP. Infact? up to as many players as you want altough 4 is their reccomended max. http://opencoop.doom3maps.org/ it's still in beta stages, but the mod's playable n' quite a bit of fun. :)

Far Cry even has a coop mod. Up to 8 Players: http://www.farcrycoop.de.vu/ (currently it doesn't work with patch v1.3, we need to wait for an update)

HaloPC might have coop, HaloSE promised it, but I havn't heard any updates on how coop's working: http://www.geocities.com/halo_specialedition/

game devs that don't add in coop are just weak.

Yeah, Half Life 1. 32 Player Coop, and has even a bot that can help you beat maps! I do a lot of the waypointing for the bot, RCbot so links: http://www.svencoop.com (they're currently also making SvenCoop for Half Life 2. pwnt.)
For RCbot: rcbot.bots-united.com
For some waypoints: http://filebase.bots-united.com/index.php?action=category& ;id=22

now THAT'S a good coop mod. I'm currently making waypoints for the "Earthquake Test Center" campaign, and next I shall do the "Project Guilty" campaign. As you can see, I've fully waypointed the official Half Life 1 Campaign, Resident Evil Campaign, and the Case Closed Campaign. ;)

Serious Sam 1st, n' 2nd Encouter are great. Massive amounts of monsters, up to 4 players on 1 computer, up to 16 players total.. great graphics, extremely solid netcode... a great game. BTW, seriously warped deathmatch is intense and lots of fun. Serious Sam 2 is on my "future games to buy" list near the top. :)

And yes, I usually do up to 3 people on my comp coop when doing coop. I have 2 mice kicking around so that's set, and those 2 people just slit the keyboard usage, and I use my gamepad. Pwnage on Serious Sam. =D

Yeah it is really sort of hilarious how Serious Sam can litteraly have 300 enemies on screen at a time, and yet you don't see Croteam crying about syncronization issues. I am willing to bet, at one time during the development of their games they had sync issues too. Difference is they spent an extra, maybe 2 hours, to fix them then go about their business. Since when do developers hit a snag like sync issues and then just raise their hands in the air, lower their heads and walk away in defeat?

It is an excuse because no one gave half a crap to do the work needed.

I think games like Halo when ported, the PC version if missing features should say so right on the box. To be honest me and my roommate bought two copies of it, and the thing he was majorly looking forward too was lanned coop. Where at the top of the package where it reads, "NEW! online multiplayer, Maps, Weapons, and More!" does it say, "And lacking a major multiplayer feature of the game this is a direct port of, because, hey, its too hard!"

Maybe my box is a miss print.

And I dont care if a computer monitor is too small for split screen coop to be feasible. Am I the only one here who has a simple TV out cable on their graphics card? This may suprise some, but You can play comp games on the TV just by plugging in a little cable that came with your graphics card, if the card is worth anything.

Please port any furture games in house.
