Ok I usually seem to know a decent amount on computers, but this has me stumped.

I have to have the settings just about all the way down, especially the resolution to 800x600 to run halo without lagging. My computer runs half life 2, and counterstrike source with the graphichs all the way up in everything, which is strange why it wont run halo nicely with the settings up higher. Try to argue that halo has better graphics than half life 2, because it doesnt. I think that its because of my vid card, but I'm not sure because it runs half life 2 very nice with the settings up all the way. It also runs farcry with the settings up.

alright now for my system info
Amd athlon 64 3200+
768 mb corsair ddr pc 3200
nvidia geforce fx 5700 LE 256 mb (most likely cause of my card but it runs half life 2 incredibly)

any suggestions would be appreciated

Its not your card man, well thats a lie it is your card but its only because Halo requires a very good card to play with no lagging. Were talking like an ATI 9800 or Nvidia 6600. I don't no where they get these minimum requirements from. The minimum requirements should be what you need to run the game with no lagging. Can you imagine trying to play this game with a minimum requirement comp. It would be awful.

i used to have an nvidia geforceFX 5200 (i still do, but it's not being used), and that's how it was. i used to dream of holding an assault rifle in a car and it would shoot like halo dude indicated. IDK why though. and i still get these dreams.....

I'm not sure why but Halo has always been a bit laggier than it's fps counterparts.....

Halo does NOT need a super card to play w/o lagging

I hav a GeForce MX 4 and it runs fine.

Ya i know if you want to run halo 800 by 600 or 640 by 480 then most 128mb cards will do if you turn down some settings but if you want to play halo at high resoutions then expect to pay more for a video card. In my opinon Halo is one of the best grapics for a pc game :)

HEY!! That hurt! Its not that bad.

well true, but i was a graphics whore back then and put the settings way to high. like...enabling decals, playing at 1024x768, i even played with the halo: the way it's meant to be played mod. it was asome, but created WAY to much lag at times.....
i also had a 1.8ghz processer at the time, which shure as -blam- didn't help

Heyyo,

I'll put you straight dude.

NOT, your fault. That vidcard's easily capable of cranking out good graphics. HaloPC was made like CRAP in graphics optimizations. Gearbox did a horrible job with Halo. They tried to make it up with HaloCE providing fastshaders which did help, but still diddn't make up for the horrible video lag generated by thelevel poly's. It's rediculous! UT2k4 easily has more poly's on its levels than Halo, I wouldn't doupt it if almsot twice as many polys as Halo, and it runs much better. Half-Life 2's a true PC game. INCREDIBLE job by Valve, they get massive props for making that game look great, and run great. :)

If ya want an example on how gearbox messed up HaloPC? download Project Torlan. It's a Halo conversion to the UT2k4 engine. It's incomplete, but has many of the Halo vehicles, and it turns very nice on me comp. Once this mod's done? it'll blow HaloPC away. Can't compete with 32 player combat, huge maps, higher-detailed levels, good graphics optimizations (ut2k4's good for them), bot support, and the ability to be almost any character from teh Halo universe, AND radio commands, AND built in voice chat support to your team, or to everyone ingame. ;) http://torlan.forerunners.org

also note the screenies of the Halo models ported straight to UT2k4.. note the textures, how they're those low-rez xbox textures... soo nasty, and not PC quality textures. They made their own textures.. I suggest using them, cause they look much better.
