Poll: Do you believe that Halo 3 PC should run exclusively on Vista?  [closed]
Yes. It should require Vista or Seven.:  33%
(34 Votes)
No. The OS required should be Windows XP or higher:  63%
(64 Votes)
No (explain).:  4%
(4 Votes)
Total Votes: 102

Choose wisely.

See thread for reference.

I honestly believe that Halo 3 PC should require -at the very least- Windows XP to run. I mean, who honestly wants to shell out a hundred bucks for an Operating System upgrade that saps 25% more of your computer hardware's resources than what is necessary?

If we all really wanted Halo 3 PC, then we would make it available to most of the users out there who already have Halo: CE for the PC. I mean, look at H2vista. How many servers are constantly up and running at the same time? 20? 30? Why aren't that many people using windows Vista?

Well there are several reasons:

1) The hardware upgrades that are necessary to run Vista without your system's resources being stolen would cost an outrageous amount of cash.
2) Currently, Windows vista requires too much to run for most consumers on their current computers.
3) The interface of vista is too user-friendly, thus it underminds many security issues, which is a pain in the neck when it comes to modding Halo CE. Security issues and Halo modding are conflicting issues.
4) The price. I mean how much does a copy of Windows Vista cost?

The lattermost reason probably makes the most sense. I mean if Vista and Halo CE modding don't mix well, then why would anyone want to buy Vista if they are such big fans of Halo CE?

I honestly don't think that we should be paying this much money just to play one game that is a simple deviation from its first installment with havok physics added in to it. I'm not voting, but if I were going to vote, I would choose at least XP.

Honestly, if someone developed a crack for multiplayer in H2 Vista that would allow you to play online for XP, I would worship that person.

Well seeing how Halo3 prolly wont come out for another 2-3 years, why on earth would anyone want it to support XP? XP will be so old by then and with no support from MS for it, it would be pointless. Also Halo3 will prolly also be DX10 or higher by then.

If you find that Vista is bogging down your system then maybe its time for some upgrades? Plus like i said Halo3 wont be out for PC for another 2-3 years so i would hope that by then ppl wont be using computers that where build in 2005 or before, lol.

Price wise, Vista really isn't any more expensive that XP was when it came out once you factor in inflation.

I say vista. Windows LIVE is free, only vista supports that so we can get achievements, private chat/PMs ,and a friends list. Also, Vista supports DX10 ,and by the time it will be released XP will be too old.

I know my nickname is absolutely stupid. Consider it a sin of my youth...

I'm sorry MC Enders, but I have to agree with both of them, I think it would be the best, if H3 only comes out for Vista and 7. XP will be too old when it'll be released and MS won't aupport it anymore...only Vista and 7 support Games for Windows Live, so that would be a great advantage I think ;-)

By the time Halo 3 PC comes out Vista will be the standard. When XP came out it had it's share of bugs, and a lot of people said they wouldn't switch. Eventually Vista will have all the bugs worked out and the people who complain about Vista now will quietly roll over and capitulate. Just like those who ragged on XP when it came out.

Whether or not Halo 3 is Vista only, I still won't buy it.

As of right now I'd say let it have XP support. But it'll probably come out later when everyone is running newer Operating systems so I voted vista and above. Not to mention that with its graphics alone most people would need new computers anyway. I needed to get a new graphics card on my brand new Vista desktop to play Halo 2 smoothly.

Phail. XP supports every aspect of Games for Windows Live too.

Windows Live is a totally different set of programs and services.

Unless it's built atop technology only supported on Vista, then yes. Otherwise, no; you're leaving a bunch of people in the dirt for no reason at all [Halo 2 Vista].

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

You're forgetting Gears of War which runs on XP or Vista.

Oops..I did forget. But still, XP will be just a bit too old by 2010 or 2011, they don't even sell it anymore.

Universe at War, and I believe Kane and Lynch also run on XP or Vista.(I don't feel like finding my copy of Kane & Lynch at the moment)

look vista isnt that bad I remember when everyone hated XP and XP had way more bugs when it first came out compared to vista. did any of yall read the arcticle??? its just a rumor and some noob artist could of easily photoshoped it but if its true and MS rumors usually end up being true... then we could be looking at halo 3 pc umm I dont know for x-mas or early next year??? again its not confirmed and its just a rumor. I dont think they will release 2-3 years down the road either they seem to be learing from h2v's failure and I doubt that they will make it vista only. they need a game to sell the new GFW live marketplace and the other changes to GFW live and I cant think of a better game to do that than halo 3. and for all the people that hate vista have you even used vista??? my older machine has 1gig of ram and 3.4 pentium 4 and it runs vista fine.

The problem is activate.exe won't work. If someone could get it to work I'm sure Halo 2 would run with Loader.exe.

If LIVE works with XP, there was really no good reaosn for halo 2 ot be vista only :/

And I confused windows live (the messenger, photo galleries, etc) with the one used in the games.

Yeah, actually.

I played Oblivion on XP and then went to Vista on XP, I got a decent 40 FPS. On Vista I was getting 20 FPS in the beginning dungeons.

Also, I just plain hated Vista's security issues.

Live does work with XP actually, get a look at GoW for Windows.

BTW, check your PMs.

What are the "security issues" on Vista?

I have yet to have a virus, or any other security related problems.

maybe is has to do with dx10?

Dx10 isn't supposed to impact FPS very highly right? My 8600gt Plays Devil may cry 4 demo at 1680x1050, all super high INCLUDING shadows, at 35-42FPS, and with 2x AA it plays at 30-32FPS. This is at DX9.

At DX10, 1680x1050, details only on high, NO shadows, No AA, I get 20-27 FPS.

I think by "security issues" he means the programs that interact with games (xfire, sightjacker etc) that cause an exception error for the game.

I used to use xfire but it kept giving me that error so now I use pidgin/gaim with gfire. you can't instajoin server but if I couldn't play on the server without crashing what was the point. =\

If Microsoft are to be believed, the next OS will be out next year anyway.

Besides there's no real reason why H3PC (which I presume will be out next year) shouldn't run on XP.

Not quite sure why people are voting for Vista or above when they haven't even given any valid reasons for why.

Oh, and it wouldn't surprise me if most PC users were still using XP, even next year. I'm pretty sure I will be.
