i don't belong to any forums other than this that have so knowledgeable of people with computers, so i will ask this, even though it has no relevance to halo

i have 2 dimms of ram. both are 256 mb
both have a cas latency of 2.5, and they have 8 chips on each dimm. both are ddr266

and i am about to get a new motherboard that supports dual channel ram.

will these two dimms work together in a dual channel configuration? (they are not the same company)

also i am not sure what density they are, because they do not say on the labels. although they have the same amount of chips, i do not know if that means the same density.

if anyone knows how to find what the density is through a software tool, like sisoft sandra or something, that would be great

thanks

i looked in sisoft sandra, and both are identical in statistics. the only difference is manufacturer, model number, and date of manufacture.

will the two dimms work in a dual channel ram configuration?

i believe the 8x32m is the density, and they are the same

Heyyo,

Hmm, last I remember the ram had to be identical.. like, same type of ram chips on them n' obviously same size in MB/GB.. so you can still try, you never know if you'll luck out. ;)

ok my man, yes the ram will work if it is the same amount of pins as ur mobo.

wat mobo excatly are u getting? and also i would recomend getting a mobo which suports ddr 400 ram and getting 512mb of that.
it'll b much faster then urs, but if not then just get the ddr400 compatible mobo neway, cos u want it to last dont u?
also u have to make suree it has the same socket as ur cpu and i would also recomend getting a few SATA slots even if u dont use em yet. (u can still use ur old hard drive)

the reason i said to get a mobo with sata and drr400 compat. is bcos all ur old stuff will wprk on it, but when u upgrade u can still use it.

btw, wats ur specs?

i am getting a msi k7n2 delta2 platinum edition

and it supports dual channel ddr400, but believe me, if ihad the money for ram at all, i would get ddr400

basically, all but the 256 mb ddr266 ram i have had since i used a radeon 9000 in windows 98 has been free.

im a poor kid ;)

but i have been saving money for a new motherboard, and after friday, which is my birthday '<:D im gonna have enough money to get one finally. and dont convince me to get a different mobo. ill ignore you. i have been an msi fan forever, and this is the only mobo out there i could find that has all the things i am going to need out of it.

also, i dont really need dual channel ram, i just was thinking, wow, wouldn't it be cool if it would work! :D
