You of all people should know why to keep them Hawk. It keeps a lot of people from breaking the rules because most people don't want to get banned and lose their role even if they are only a Heroic Member. Also what would be the point of removing them, besides making more work for Achronos?

After three fateful years, TheSodaFreaK has returned upon a mighty Warthog.
I shall strike fear into the hearts of my low ranked enemies, and remind them of the well-known fact: I am a Soda.

if i had my own title, it would be Fake Luke Smith

...The reward (in this case, a title) is utterly meaningless..., but as getting it requires "continuous positive contributions to the community" - something we'd like to see people do,...

Seeing as you like to see people do the things that earn them progression, wouldnt it make more sense to remove the shroud of secrecy that's surrounded the system since its birth? I mean, is there actually a problem with people abusing a system for advancement when the "abuse" is a "continuous positive contribution"?

Lol Achronos doesn't want people boosting by being positive too much. Either that or the code really is only based on reports, bans, warnings, activity, and join date and nothing more. If people found out that that's all there is to it, they might get mad.

Member titles have helped me meet and get to know so many more people on this site.
It has facilitated the creation of the best group of guys! (You know who you are)
The titles have done nothing but make my Bungie.net experience a positive one.
(Apart from the odd argument with CAVX ;)

I like them :)

If I had a penny for every user that only reads via member title I'd be a millionaire.

Most of the time if you don't have a title then good luck on this site.

They don't really honestly make that big of a difference i n my expierience.

If you are truly worried about being a higher title, then you must sign-in at Bungie.net everyday for starts.

Posting positive and helpful feedback is great, as long as you aren't the tenth person answering the OP with the same answer.

Finally, if you happen to lose your higher member status, it will go back up, but it could take a few days. Nothing's perfect, so do your part.

If anything needs removing, it's the golden septagon. Whenever a Bungie employee posts in a thread, everyone rushes to read their post and respond to them. People ignore what has been said before, and in some cases the topic of the thread, just so they can interact with them.

I'm not saying it's the employee's fault, or that they shouldn't have the other markers to indicate they are a Bungie Employee. But that little septagon ruins threads.

If it was removed, then only people genuinely interested in the topic would see the employee post, and could respond and build on it positively. You wouldn't get random people rushing in to quote the employee.

Neo has officially been promoted to barf cleaner-upper and pukee hair holder.
I am honored to have that position. While your barfing I can steal your wallets!

It's creepy enough that people stalk Bungie via Webcams, but it's even worse how they stalk back.

for the most part I have found it to be a good indicator. Everything has its exceptions. Even the goldness of Bungie employees. Look at Drabominable and his "DO YOU LIKE PIE!?" thread (it is on the Flood)

The titles are a waste of time.
At least, Legendary and Heroic titles are. Most Mythic members are pretty good, but aside from that most of the more entertaining and witty members seem to be trolls.

The rest are the trolled. Among many older members having the rank, *ahem*, title, if you really do have a stick up your ass, of Member seems to be more valuable than Mythic.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

I like my blue bar. It's Bungie's way of saying "Hey James, thanks for chillaxin' with us for, like, 5 years bro!" Is it trivial? Sure. But I like it anyway.

Besides, people will always find inaccurate metrics to judge character by. We had post counts, join dates, and now title bars. It's not that big a deal, and people who judge posts based on that alone probably aren't worth your attention anyway.

There are many people with a title that behave like somone who is new to the site.

All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

So with out the title system what kind of damage could possible occur?

You do realize how long this site has thrived without member titles, right? It's not like anarchy broke out then. And it's not like people don't break the rules now.
I say we get rid of all the rules. That way there are no rules to break!

...

Titles aren't rules.
I never said that either. I just made a lame joke about getting rid of the rules.

EDIT: Lame jokes are against the rules. I made a good and really funny joke.

The rules are way too big and need to be summed up nicely in small concise sentences.

Maybe they should be made more strict and go to people who actually post and are responsible when posting.

ninjas don't sleep, they

OH WAIT NO THAT JOKE HAS BEEN MADE TWENTY SIX TIMES IN THIS THREAD ALREADY WOOPS

I don't really like the way the titles work, but that's also why I want them to stay. They're occasional (and seemingly at random) fluctuations and inconsistencies have almost a puzzle-like quality.

It's kind of like playing a really simple game on a really hard difficulty level-- The game lacks the quality and detail for true degrees of hardness, so it just makes up for that in cheap, stupid little ways that end up frustrating you to a seemingly boundless extent.***

It's all part of the challenge, and it's much better than playing the whole way through on the same difficulty... that can only lead to boredom. Where's the replay value (read: fun) in that?

Obviously it isn't the most loyal analogy, but it sort of gives an idea as to some of the potentially good aspects of something as trivial as member titles.

Besides, there is no way that they are a big enough problem here so as to require their removal.... If someone is stupid enough to rely on something like these titles for an accurate description of character, they should be very good candidates for you to ignore in the first place. ...And don't pretend like you don't already put up with this kind of stuff on the internet, because the Halo 3 ranking system comes immediately to mind.
