I think that to keep the Underground more on topic, there should be a new board created, specifically for General Bungie discussion, what is happening is that there is too much off topic and out of place threads posted in The Underground, and I think one of the main reasons is because "Bungie General" is too loose and hard to interpret as a board topic.

The board is filled with plenty of posts about Halo 2, cheating, etc. I think that the "Bungie General" label is simply too broad and confusing.

With the amount of new people suddenly attracted old-skool (With a K) bungie games on here, it would be nice to have a ad hoc board for old-skool discussion with on-topic posts in it, with the added bonus of a dedicated board for discussions Bungie.

Please? :-)

I have to agree thoroughly.

Alot of the more mature users join this site because of their love for old-skool Bungie games, and when they see such idiocy as is posted daily in the Underground, I imagine lots will flee, never to return. Having an old-skool only Forum would shun out the idiot spammers and reel in the people who want to actually discuss old-skool as opposed to their clan and Halo.

Maybe the Bungie General forum should have a label "Not for H2 discussion".

Right now every forum is wading through tides of crap. Even the septagon has about 8 locked threads that I can see and all bar about 2 of the threads are OT anyway...

Just a thought...

Yea I think so too. The underground really is bungie.nets general bungie forum. We really need an oldschool forum.

I agree with stosh, but ever since I first started to come to Bungie.net, I’ve always thought of the Underground as the old school forum, not just the general. I think it’d be better to scrap the gallery or turn it into the general forum, it really saddens me to see Marathon and Myth posts next to Halo 2 topics.

I've always thought of the underground as a bungie general forum...because that's what it was before the new hotness.

I guess Halo isn't old-skool enough to go in the Underground.

Well, what would be a good name for a dedicated old-skool forum? (Disclaimer: this is a hypothetical discussion! IF (big IF) Bungie were to make a new forum, it would be their decision, not ours.) But hypotheticals can be fun!

* "Pathways into Darkness"
Not only does this come directly from Bungie-goodness, it describes the joys and tribulations of enjoying the old-skool games.

* "The Ark"
Has a nice "biblical" feel to it and yet still has that Bungie "ring".

* "The Core"
A construct, in the Core? That is completely unacceptable!

* "Valhalla"
Sacred halls for the fallen warriors.

Not that a good name would make it more likely, but we might as well enjoy the thought.

Good ideas, but I strongly feel that "The Core" and "The Ark" should be ruled out. They have Halo origins, and we've all seen that lots of users can't seem to think very effectively when it comes to choosing a Forum, so it's probably best to eliminate any encouragement for them to mis-post.

Old Skool would work, it describes exactly what should be posted there.

How about... Oh wait, that'll be breaking the rules... =]

I don't care what it's name is as long as it's strictly for "old school" discussion. I don't know about you, but I really want The Underground to go back to what it once was.

Oh, well in that case, i'd call it, or at least have the description as:

"Keep out ya little halo fanboiz, this is for oldskewl bungie games onleh"

Ether way I think it would have to be bluntly for Old Bungie games and ruled with an iron fist. It seems like most of the Halo posts in the wrong forums are do to the over load of spam in New Mombasa and Zanzibar. So the (generally) younger poster go elsewhere not caring what the forums for just so there post will be seen for more then 5 mins. I think Oldschool maybe to loose still. Say in the next year or so because technically the first Mac Halo render was in early 90's was it not? (not totally sure..) Thats Oldschool to me. I think the name should be a game reference thats pre Halo maybe The Terminal or even just as blunt as Pre Halo. Then agian some of the posters may just see Halo and still post there.

The best part: We could call the newcomers "Ickies", short for Icarus, which would provide a Bungie synonym to the n-word. And, it would be funny.

I like Valhalla, it's mythology (Norse) and seems appropriate for the forum. Recon is right , most discussion about old school is spurred on by new members interested in the subject matter, not by the eightieth thread discussing what the SO ate for breakfast. Nobody wants to get rid of the questions by inquisitive members, they just want to stop being stifled by misplaced posts.

Out of those, I would go with Pathways into Darkness. While Valhalla does seem appropriate, it makes me sad to consider games like Marathon fallen, considering me and my friends are still lanning Infinity and still have loads of fun with it. And the fact that it is now an open source project, I don't see it tapering off regardless of what other games hit the market.
