If bungie hasnt told us then how in the world will Gamestop no?? or EB games?? Or funcoland?? or GameCrazy?? or anyother game store
Game stores like to offer pre-order deals on big titles such as Halo 2. In order to do this, however, they have to provide a release date. This is required by law, so if there is no release date, a guess is made as to when the game will be released. Notice how all these EBGames and etc release dates are so close to the beginning of the month? It's because that's easier than just picking a random day.
Anyhow, when the estimated time of release comes, and is about to go, with no game out, the retailer obviously has to push their estimate back. When asked about this, the retailer's often blame the developer for delays in order to save face (Would you tell YOUR customer "I just guessed the date and I was wrong.")
The fact is that retailers know little more than we do about release dates. People that follow a developer as closely as the Bungie fanbase often know before the retailers when a game is to be published.
And that's how it is.
